If installed per the manual, the wiring coming out of the inertia switch’s plug will form a loop that hangs down into the footwell. It seems like it could be easily caught by a foot. If I could mount it upside down, it would be fine, but I’ve read elsewhere that’s bad. Anyone have a description or pictures of a neater install?

There isn't any current running through the switch, so feel free to relocate it wherever you like. If you aren't using the RF fuel pump relay, say for a carb setup, you can eliminate it. If running an electric pump from a different relay, just put the switch in the ground wire for the pump somewhere that you can access.

Where does the manual have it? I have it on the 2x2 cross bar as high as I could get it and while the wiring does hang down behind the bar it is covered by the dash and you would have to kick the dash before getting to the wires, its nowhere near in the way. It cant/shouldnt be installed upside down, and you should have access to it in case it gets accidentally tripped and you need to reset it. All these inertia switches are essentially the same, this explains why not to mount it upside down.

To function properly it has to be mounted so that the button is up.

If the wire can be seen below the dash, I usually tie it up with a tie wrap.

For what it is worth, I created a small bracket just above the cross-member so that my inertia switch was up out of the way and the wire didn't hang too low. That way I still had access to it from the driver's seat but it was a bit more hidden and cleaner overall.

I mounted it on the far right side of the dash. It's up high enough that it's out of sight but can still be accessed by reaching up under the dash. I also wired a toggle switch inline in the ground wire as a fuel pump cutoff switch. You can make it out in the back edge of the under dash filler panel.

Put it in the engine compartment where you can get to it easily.
