I sent this in an email to Jim, but on second thought maybe someone can answer this, and benefit someone else.

I want to buy, and eventually build build to the new rules, an engine that I can put in a Challenge car.

I looked at a 5.0 in an '89 Lincoln LSC, and the guy selling it said the LSC (different from the straight Lincoln) has the same engine as the Mustang, same assembly line. It has the HO on the top, same injectors, etc.

Would this then be acceptable?

If not, how can one tell the difference - I just happened to see it in the car. He could pull it out and how would I know?

He has an '88 out of a Mustang also, so it's not like he wants to sell me just THIS motor... but I was able to hear the '89 run, so I'd prefer it to one sitting on a tire in his shop.

thanks!
Eric

Take a look at the casting numbers on the block just above the starter motor.

If I remember correctly the LSC used the e7te-ca, which is the same as the mustangs except with the Lincoln build code on them.

I am having difficulty understanding why I still need to use and 87-93 short block. Is the crank different? If I am building based on the new rules with trick flow heads why does the bottom end matter as long as it uses the correct pistons, stays under 0.60 over and does not exceed the compression ratio.

The engines in the junkyards are usually damaged or rebuilt and you can't even determine if the block is usable until you purchase it and tear it down.

Thanks in advance for the help!
