I'm trying to figure out how to remove the power steering rack in a Coyote Mk4. When I remove the lock screws holding the shaft to the rack, I can't get the shaft to move back at all. It looks like the u-joint by the firewall has no room to move back.

Pictures attached.

Thank you,

The bearing was install incorrectly, better if it's on the inside of the foot box, then the shaft can move rearward. Take the rack bolts out, then see if that gives you enough wiggle room.

That is not a typical set up. It looks like both u-joints have been welded to the lower shaft, so no help there. The upper u-joint looks to in the firewall so not sure where the slack can come from. Normally you could loosen the set-screws in upper steering shaft and DD shaft and pull them towards the drivers seat and the lower shaft would be loose. Not sure that will work, but that is where i would start.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I was able to separate them by removing the rack bolts and then lowering the rack about an inch, allowed just enough clearance.

Thank you,
