Telescopic or no telescopic steering

Hi all,

I'm in the process of installing a telescopic steering column on GTM#534. It came from a c6 donor. C6 steering column looks slightly different than C5. I just hope this won't cause any compatibility issues later.

My question is, is telescopic recommended on this car? Does it feel much different when driving?

As it has been a couple of days since your post I will chime in and say that there have been discussions about the C6 components and the telescopic steering column. Can't recall if it was C6 AND telescopic, but there are definitely threads about the subject. Have you tried the search function? It seems to be pretty slow here on the forum, so the search function might be your best bet.

Hey Crash, thanks for the response.

I did quite a bit of research on here as well as corvette forums. I saw a build thread on the other forum by someone named Aaron (I'd post a link but might get in trouble) who built his with a C6 donor. He mentioned that C6 steering column "works better" without getting into details. I suppose, mechanically, it works. I'm mainly concerned about the wiring, since that's where I have the least experience.

The wiring can't be any different than the wiring to the C5 telescoping column. It's been a while since I've installed a tele column, but if memory serves, it involves wiring the tele switch to a couple of relays to reverse polarity to the motor to run it in and out.

It just dawned on me that maybe you're talking about the wiring to stuff like the lights and wipers....and not just the wiring to the tele part? I wouldn't think there could be that much difference and looking up the wiring diagrams to that stuff online and cross referencing to the C5 would get you where you need to go.....

Thanks Shane. I was actually wondering about any incompatibilities (wipers, telescopic motor, blinkers). I've never done any wiring to a car before. I definitely need to look up these wiring diagrams to cross reference. I was also thinking if for some reason C6 telescopic doesn't work on this build, I'll just leave it out. But you/Aaron gave me some hope that it should work. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to keep it for now.
