For you folks that have done black outs to your roadster, what did you do for the Lemans gas cap?
Thanks!
*Oh and I meant Advice but I can't change the thread name.

Hey Captain,
I don't know; however, we've got a shop in my home town that can either powder coat or anodize it.
Just know that the Anodizing Process doesn't yield a very shiny finish on a cast part, but will protect it.
The powder coating process is likely your best option so hopefully some one will chime in.

If you don't have a shop in your area that can do it, then feel free to reach out to me.
Give me a yell if you decide to use the shop over here in the Dell, Slidell Louisiana that is.
Anode LLC does a lot of work for the folks in my area so sometimes there is a significant wait time.

Just something to consider. If you want all the shiny stuff to be black and you'd like the pieces to all look the same, then anodize is not the answer.
You'll be changing steel, chrome steel and aluminum, possibly other materials. Anodize only works on aluminum, maybe titanium. Powder coat is probably the only way to go. You'll get consistent coverage, and the base material shouldn't matter as the powder is relatively thick.

I also found, on bicycle parts, black anodizing doesn't seem to hold up very well. It can go brown over time.
Where the latch hits is going to be a wear area. That isn't going to last forever with powdercoat.

Chrome is beautiful...

I've got a good powdercoater and I'm sure they can do it but I didn't know how well the powdercoat held up when you started to open and close it.
I suppose if you were gentle when you open and closed it, it would minimize any rubbing off of the powdercoat.

I bet if you Bead Blast, Sand Blast or Simply Sand the piece prior to it being coated it would give some "Tooth" to the piece which would help the powder coating stick.
I'm sure if your powder coater is good, he or she will know exactly how to prep the part.

Mine is at the powder coater as we speak. I hope to get it back this week, he also has all my latches, I'll let you know how it turns out.

Any good quality industrial painter or powder coater will have a chemical pre-treatment system to clean and etch prior to applying finish on metal. Usually a 3 to 5 stage automated or manual line to spray or dip and dry the raw metal for finish application. Different chemicals are used to clean and treat depending on the type metal. I would look for a supplier of this type service in you area. Good metal prep will give you the most durable long lasting finish.
Mine is powder coated gloss black. Turned out great.

First, when someone asks a question about how to do something, why do folks who haven’t done it chime in? Just answer the question if you know. Your sucking up my bandwidth.
Second, I have mine powder coated. I removed the brass pin to get the parts separated for better coverage. I also removed the spring part on the underside of the cap.

How is your powder coat holding up - especially where the latch roller contacts the lid?

So far, so good. Car has about 1,700 miles on it and still looks good. You can see that it rides on the roller but it is still covered and once the latch is closed, you can’t even see that. 167074
The pic looks worse than it looks in normal light.

It just so happens that I went for a cruise yesterday with my friend whose car is blacked out. Everything is powder-coated. I took a picture of his gas cap unlatched so you could see the wear. This is about 4 years worth. 167175
There certainly isn't any wear that you can see when it is latched. It has some scratching, but no peeling.

used Cerakote on mine, so the exhaust, gas, head and taillight rings would all look the same https://photos.app.goo.gl/4jcxGfEaqNHPH8sh8
