I am looking for some sage advice from my Massachusetts bretheren of anyone else for that matter that has some thoughts. I would prefer to leave my Mk4 without windshield wipers. Does anyone know if we can get through inspection in Mass without them? Somewhere in the past I think I recall someone talking about a clip-on removable wiper - does anyone know if such a thing exists? Any help would be much appreciated.

I put wipers on my MKII for the same reason as concerns you: not having the lack of wipers raised as a reason not to pass inspection. In 13,000+ miles I have never put the wipers to use, since I don't want the twin scratch arcs that would develop in the glass. And so I have wipers and a blown (inactive) fuse in that circuit, so they won't be turned on by accident. There's also a live fuse that hangs off a cable tie from the blown one, for those few times when I need to activate the wiper circuit. During some of the yearly safety inspections, i have been asked to operate the wipers. At those times, I pull the wiper blades back to their stand-off position and operate the system that way, just to show they work. That has always been sufficient. Yes, someone makes a clip-on wiper assembly, but it has only one arm. I was concerned that approach might not clear enough of the windshield to satisfy authorities here (I have never found out whether that concern was valid.
I apply RainX regularly to both sides of the windshield and that has worked fine for those two times when I got caught in a shower.

Thanks Pierre for your commentary. I think that is a good way to go and my plan is to follow your lead. I'm going to get on installing them tomorrow. Thanks Again.
