View Full Version : Question on windshield mounting

My memory is no longer as sharp as it used to be, but this has me stumped. I remember that when I mounted the windshield on my old MK2, the posts, slots and bezels were almost parallel to a line down the center of the body. The posts were formed and drilled at an angle that countered the angle of the windshield frame and brought them back to parallel with the center line. I am now installing the windshield on the new MK4, and the posts are about 10 degrees from parallel with the center line. I had to adjust the slots to compensate, and the bezels look quite odd at that angle (toed-out). I know the posts are mounted correctly to the frame, because the screw heads are angled in the countersinks and the top curve mates up perfectly with the top corner of the frame. I also recall checking the mounting plates for straightness and parallel before I dropped the body on. What am I missing?

Joe I noticed this on the last few kits that I built. One the first one I thought it was a bad windshield. I have since done 3 more with the same results. Best you can do is try to get the windshield trim as parrallel to the body as you can so it looks right to the eye. Not sure what changed. Maybe a new vendor from FFR?

Mikes right, get the posts lined up with the mounting holes and the right angle and you should be good to go

Easier said than done. The posts fit the windshield only one way.

I just installed the windshield on my Mark4 today and it is exactly the same. There is no way to adjust the posts on the winshield frame they go where they go. Funny enough the posts seem to sit nice and flat against the frame brackets. I have everything all bolted in and I only had to add a washer thickness shim to the top hole on the drivers side. I also had to bnd the passenger post out abit at th bottom but that was it. Everthing bolted up well and I got the 53 degrees very easily.

I have noticed that I will have to modify the bezels or as I was planning to try and make some myself this winter just angle the slot accordingly so the bezel runs parallel to the body.

I made custom bezels for mine due to the size of the slot. They do sit crooked, but you'll be surprised how not noticeable it is when everything is done.
