View Full Version : Hazard lights issue

I am struggling here. I had my Russ Thompson turn signal working and the hazard lights worked fine. (Ron Francis harness) I tidied up the wires and now the hazard lights only work when directional signal is on. Dash indicators (L/R) work and speedo indicators (L/R) work when turn signal on. Just can’t get hazards to work alone. I checked the flasher modules, no fuses blown, and rechecked the wiring.

I am sure it is something obvious, but after 3 hours, I walked away to ask the forum.

Appreciate any suggestions.

I did a bit more research, so let me add a few things.

Right now I only have 1 headlight and 1 turn signal wired. Both work fine. Both non-LED. I bought Breeze LED kit, but not installed yet. I did install the LED flashers, connected to ground.

Tomorrow I can wired 4 corners if that is the issue or install the factory supplied flashers.

Need a little more info. Hazards are a battery circuit. Turn signals are an ignition circuit. So your hazards should work with the key off. Do they? Describe exactly. Would be best to have all four corners wired to fully test. But you still should get something with the key off since you have the solid state flashers. With the key on, you should get turn signals. And you should still get hazards. But you can't have both on at the same time. The way the RF harness is set up, doesn't like that. That's OK, because it wouldn't be a normal operational thing to have both on at the same time. BTW, one of the key things with the hazards is to have the proper double pole switch (like the one that came with the kit) so that the left and right circuits are kept separated except when the hazards are on.

Thanks edwardb. I’ll try to clarify.

With key off, I don’t get turn signals or hazards. Turning key to on, no hazards. But RT turn signals work - front turn, dash LED indicators, and speedo indicators. (L or R as needed)

If I leave turn signal on and flip hazard switch, all hazards work - front turn, dash indicators and speedo indicators (L&R) all flash

I am using FF supplied hazard switch and Russ Thompson kit for turn signals. No relays as I am using stalk button for horn. Which works fine.

I am going back to shop and will check everything again. And wire other corners.

As I said, the turn signals are ignition switched. So makes sense that the turn signals don't work with the key off and only work with the key on. But the hazards not working with the key off is where you need to start. The Ron Francis Pink-Hazard Flasher wire is a battery circuit (e.g. always on regardless of ignition switch) and should have +12V with the key off. Start there. It goes to both poles on your hazard switch. If it's not wired correctly, detached, fuse blow, whatever, that's likely the source of your problem. Sounds like your turn signals are working correctly. Switching the hazard switch on at the same time as the turn signals (not a normal thing to do as I mentioned) is giving +12V turn signal voltage to both sides of the turn signals via the hazard switch. Makes sense.

Ah…that helps. I’ll keep you posted.

Shame on me. The hazard fuse was marginal. Looked fine, but was actually opened. Replaced with a high quality fuse and all works.

Thanks again for all your help.
