View Full Version : Accelerator Pedal Cable connection
Today I had the cable break free from the white square connector at the gas pedal. It appears that white piece failed to hold the cable in place. I was hoping to quickly pull it out to replace it w a universal cable barrel or something to get back on the road, but unfortunately wasn’t able to.
Anybody know where to get a replacement piece to connect the cable to the pedal again or recommend an alternative?
I just recently bought the vehicle, so unfortunately didn’t build it.
347 carb, 5 speed MK4 setup. I’m assuming stock FF pedal kit

Do you know what kind of throttle pedal setup you have? A picture of what you're dealing with? It may be a simple fix.
Save yourself the hassle of a cable problem down the road and look at a Lokar upgrade. The Lokar cable connection to the FFR pedal is via a clevis.

Here is the cable I bought:
Lokar TC-1000HT36 36" Hi-Tech Throttle Cable https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000CONKFQ/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_FKGYK768THMJ5VWV525A?_encoding= UTF8&psc=1

Also make sure when the throttle is open the pedal is on a hard stop, if not you can put a lot of force on the cable and break it. You might need to install an ajustable stop for the pedal

I second this. I bought this as well. I had mine come apart just in go karting. Went with Dave's recommendation haven't had an issue. The other recommendation I can give is the ball adapter at the throttle body/carburetor connection. Put a second set screw in it from the other side.

This is the only pic I took that looks decent while I was trying to figure it out. Seems that the gap that was containing the cable gave way and cable went through completely after a hard throttle jab.
The recommended Lokar option above looks much more secure.

Looks like you have a mustang donor pedal there. Not sure what to be done with those short of replacing it with a pedal that can use the aftermarket throttle cables.
Ok, nice thanks for identifying it for me. Would doing something like getting the Russ Thompson pedal be a smart move and relatively be “plug and play”?

Yes you most likely can replace it with russ thompson. You will need to know what MK your car is. I would talk to Mark Reynalds at Breeze. He is a vendor on here. He should be able to help you spec the correct thing. He might also have a solution on what you can do with the Mustang pedal as well.
Thanks, it’s a MK4. I’ll reach out later today

2nd for the Russ Thompson pedal. Assuming the engine is a sbf.
You may need a new cable to thread through the cable casing out to the carb or throttle body.

Another guy (FFR9375 on the other forum) and I, 3-D printed our own plastic bushings for the Mustang and RT gas pedals respectively, as those sometimes get brittle and break, too. Here's a link to what he came up with, for the '02 Mustang donor pedal:
