View Full Version : Steve's Stupid Question! Moser 8.8 Rear Brakes!

Hey Gang,

A friend of mine has the Moser 8.8 3-link rear with stock type disk brakes.
My question is what is the typical rear brake set up for this axle?
I'm running a Moser Dana 44, with Explorer Disc Brakes, but his looks like something from a Mustang.
Do you all know what Moser typically uses for brakes when they build an 8.8 solid axle for a Roadster?

My Mk4 15 year anniversary came with the Moser 3-link solid axle. Back then they were still using the C-Clip axle retention and standard mustang brake setup.

The new Moser solid axle has a different style axle retention and I am not sure if the same brake setup applies.

Not sure if it helps but these are the Wilwoods I have on mine: https://www.wilwood.com/BrakeKits/BrakeKitsProdRear?itemno=140-7146-D

From what I can determine, the brakes used on the Ford and 8.8 Moser rear ends use one of the rear brake assemblies from a Mustang from 1994-2004. These brake assemblies use a clamping style caliper system for the parking brake. In addition, it appears that brakes were different for the Base & GT models compared to the Cobra & Mach-1 versions so I think the rotor diameter solves the riddle.

1994-2004 Mustang Base & GT Model
276 MM or 10.8661 Inches

2000-2004 Mustang Cobra & Mach-1
296 MM or 11.65 Inches

We may want to bring the rotors to our local auto part store and have them match them up or call Moser or Factory Five to see exactly what they sent. As for me, I'm running Ford Explorer rear brakes on a Dana-44 which uses an internal drum style parking brake and Top Hat style rotor which measures 285 MM or 11.22 Inches.

Thanks Gang & We'll Figure It Out!

My moser 8.8 3 link using the drum parking brake. I believe the clamping style is on the IRS. I tried to buy the electronic clamping style wilwood makes and they informed me it was only available for IRS.

I've got an e-mail from Factory Five stating the 11.65" rear brake kit includes calipers and pads from an 87-88 T-bird and rotors from a 2007 Saturn Vue front rotor drilled to the 5 on 4 1/2 bolt pattern.

Thanks Gang!

I just spoke to Sir Jeffski and he threw me a few informational bones.
Will let you know what these suckers are after we match them up at NAPA.

Thanks Again!
