Posting this because I didn't want to clog up the thread re the open house in June.
Planning on lingering around for a day or two afterwards and I'd like to hear peoples' thoughts on places to visit and things to do/see while we're in the vicinity.
Just my wife and I, travelling from Toronto, ON, Canada by car.
Already thinking of coming down via the NY Finger Lakes region...
Thanks,
Earl

So much to see, depends on your interest.
Beaches on the Cape, Provincetown is a good trip. Could also squeeze in a ferry to the Vineyard. Maritime history; USS Constitution in Boston, BB Massachusetts in Fall River, Submarine Force museum in Groton or Mystic Seaport in CT. Mansion tours in Newport RI with some really nice shops and restaurants. Art and science museums and more restaurants in Boston.

Thankyou! Driving out onto the Cape towards Provincetown and back was one of my 1st thoughts. Not a big military buff, but I would like to check out the Marconi Museum. Was thinking that after that we could make our way up towards Boston for a day or so before heading back west.

When we were at the last one a few years ago, we stayed an extra day and cruised out all around the Cape. Some nice roads and beautiful scenery. It was Sunday, so lots of other classic cars doing the same thing. That's OK. Stopped and had a nice lunch on the patio at a town along the way. We still talk about what a pleasant day that was. We've also done the tourist thing in Plymouth. Interesting to say we'd been there. But it's pretty commercialized. Have to laugh. We also remember stopping at a gas station in one of the towns. I hopped out to gas up the Roadster, and the attendant stopped me and said I wasn't allowed to pump my own. I guess one of the few places in Massachusetts where self-service isn't allowed. I apparently made a face or whatever because the guy said "What's the matter, you afraid I'm going to scratch your pretty car?" Looked at him, thought about his attitude, and said "Yes." He let me pump it. :p

EdwardB,
Touristy and commercialized will be perfect for Mrs. Narly1 and will be my penance for dragging her to the open house on Saturday, LOL.

Like Paul said there are plenty of things to do in Plymouth Ma. The Mayflower, Plymouth Rock and Plymouth Plantation to name a few. Only 10-15 miles from FFR.

Bonus points for anybody who can suggest where the good eats are at, want to avoid the chains if at all possible LOL.

Lots of sea food restraunts all around. My favorite 2 close by are Fishermans View in Sandwich or the Lobster Trap in Bourne, Another irem if the misses is into the car thing is directly across the street from FFR is a large shopping mall with a bunch of outlet stores. An hour there may cost you more than the trip -----

Advice straight from a local...much appreciated!
And Mrs. Narly1 can spend her own $$ at the mall if that's what she wants to do LOL!

Brew Fish Bar and Eatery in Marion Ma. Maybe 7-10 miles from FFR.

One weekend eons ago I was in the area and drove up the cape. It was an all-day event.
Worth it, especially when you get out on the north side of Provincetown and get your toes in the sand.
Also, on the north side of Boston, on the coast (obviously), is the USS Constitution

There is a bed and breakfast in nearby Sandwich, Mass. called The Belfry. It's an old church converted into a B&B and restaurant. I've stayed there twice and would stay or eat there again without hesitation. Safe travels!

I was born and went to school in Wareham. At the time there was no FFR.
Moved to Beantown to go to college and then to Pembroke until we moved to NM in 2016.
Plymouth has a lot of history as others have said.
The Mayflower was just towed thru Cape Cod canal back to Plymouth.

If you want to drive down to Newport RI there are lots of things to do there too.
We always took our out of state company down to Newport to go on a 2 hr cruise on The Adirondack. It use to be $25 for seniors.
They have always let me take the wheel once we got out of the harbor.

Lots to do on the Cape, route 6a is a good drive. Also go to Woods Hole. etc. Expect lots of traffic on the weekends.
If the Bourne or Sagmore bridges are backed up take the tunnel...local joke.
Walk up the tower in P-town. Great views from the top.

New Bedford (18 miles from Wareham) has the Whaling Museum.

Try the Black Whale in New Bedford. When I toured FFR couple years ago before I bought I was there and it was excellent

So we're staying put in Wareham on Saturday night. Question, if we're gonna go out on the Cape on Sunday should we take 6A out & 28 back or vice versa? Plan is to catch Sunday dinner on the way back in and stay somewhere a little further west or north where hotels are cheaper. Any cheap places on the way up to Boston?
LOL fractured my femur end of last November and while I'm getting around pretty good these days the tower looks a little daunting LOL.
P.S. If anybody sees a guy limping around at the open house that'd be me. Introduce yourself and say hi.

6a is a nice drive heading east thru some of the towns. If your pressed for time to get back 28 isn’t the fastest way route 6 is much quicker. However you’ll need to go over one of the 2 bridges which on a Sunday afternoon in the summer can have some long backups. Some of the local radios stations should have traffic reports. I’ll ask my sister, she lives in Yarmouth Port.
Cheap hotels, ??? Not sure you can use those two words in the same sentence during the summer.
Maybe look in Middleboro, pretty sure that all raise their rates for the summer.
Another nice drive is up the coast from Plymouth to Cohasset to Hingham and Hull.

Local traffic can be found on WXTK 95.1 on Cape Cod and also on WATD 95.9 which is in Marshfield. Both stations should be heard a long distance.
Some local info regarding WATD, Ed Perry is the owner. When deciding on what the station call letters were going to be (beer and pizza may have had something to do with it) the transmitter tower was at the Marshfield dump. The W is what all eastern stations start with, the rest came from At The Dump.

We'd be in no rush to get off of the Cape. We'd just want to get inland a bit to where the cheaper places to stay are. Thinking we could easily stop and enjoy dinner somewhere on the way back while we wait for the bridge traffic to die down.

Earl, here’s a few to pick from.
All these restaurants have websites.
Casual attire is generally the norm.
Falmouth:
La Cucina Sul Mare~pricier
C Salt Wine Bar & Grill~pricier
Quarterdeck~not fancy, a Falmouth Main St staple. Has been there for years, always fresh seafood.
Aņejo~good Mexican, 2 locations, Falmouth & Hyannis, both on the town's Main Street
Mashpee:
Siena
Bleu
Wicked
Hyannis:
The Black Cat~across the street from where the island ferries dock, great burgers, big menu
Albertos~Main St. been there for years, consistent and good!
Main Street Bistro
Tugboats~2nd floor dining, can see the ferries arrive & depart, fun place, good food. Listed as Yarmouth, must be right on the Hyannis line.

So my daily driver is in the shop today getting an alignment (after me replacing the shocks here in the driveway) and an oil change before we set out for Mecca LOL.
I looked into a more fuel efficient rental and by the time I factored in fuel + rent it makes more sense to take the F-150. Plus it will be more comfortable and roomy for me with my still recovering femur injury.
Very excited to be making this trip. Taking Thursday/Friday to get down there, going out to the Cape on Sunday/Monday and back home Tuesday/Wednesday.

Literally a mile from my house. MY wife and I eat there 2- 3 nights a week. Highly recommended.
