Hi Everyone,
I ordered a base Roadster kit today and thought I would introduce myself. I'm in my 40's ,live in Minnesota with its short driving season/car show season, and spend too much time behind the computer for work. We have a couple of girls that I'm trying to get into classics, but they are mostly into Hockey and Dogs - which is fine.
I grew up in a Ford family and have uncle's that build everything - Model A's, 50's T-Birds,50's Stock Car Replica's, Classic Mustangs, Classic Bronco, 60s/70s Trucks, I can't keep up. My Grandfather always had a dozen cars and I remember in riding around with him in the 80s in his 1970 Ford 3/4 ton, 1963 Galaxie 500 2 door, 86 Bronco, one of his four 1960's Mustangs, his 87 Mustang GT Convertible, or on very rare occasions his prized 57 T-Bird. I'm pretty sure this is where my interest in cars came from, though they all lived too far away from me to ever work on a project with them.
I grew up obsessed with classic Mustangs, I could get enough of them from 64.5 to 70s. My first car I purchased from my Grandmother, a 1969 Mustang Grande (302/C4 Hardtop, AC, PS, PB), which I still have but is now very modified (347, Rack and Pinion, Disc Brakes, Power Windows, Gear Vendors Over Drive, Limited Slip, some tricked out front end parts). My wife purchased her first fun car last December, a 2019 Mustang Convertible GT 6 speed. So that was a great addition to the Garage. Unfortunately it means we need more space before the FFR arrives. I'm thinking a lift in the 3rd bay might do the trick? Anyway I'm super excited even if it's going to be 10 months before the kit comes.
I, like many people on this forum, dreamed for years before pulling the trigger. I remember seeing my first Cobra or replica in the 90s shortly after getting out of high school. I learned about Factory Five in the late 2000's and started thinking I would like to tackle the project in about 10 years ago. In 2014 my wife and I went to the 50 year Mustang Birthday Celebration/show in Vegas. One of the places we visited that weekend was Shelby American south of the Vegas strip. Without prompting my wife fell in love with Cobra's. So that is when the planning started in the back of my mind. Once I finished modifying my 69 Mustang a few years ago planning started in earnest.
Well that's probably a lot more than anyone really wanted to know, but as I said I'm stoked to be starting this project. I'm enjoying reading all the posts on hear, though I think most of it will make more sense once the kit arrives and I start myself. I also started a build thread: https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?42667-Matt-in-MN-s-Roadster&p=489746#post489746
