Just wondering how much clearence (ie size of air cleaner) one has to play with between the hood and 351 W (including carb) ?

I have a 351W, Edelbrock heads and Performer RPM AirGap intake, Edelbrock 750 Performer Carb, Energy suspension motor mounts and transmission mounts and oval Cobra Air filter with 1 1/2" K&N filter element. The hood has good clearance, probably 1/2" or a little better. The problem area with an oval filter at any rate is the area under the cowl, that clears by about 1/4" or a little less.

I have a 351W with a Weiand Stealth intake manifold, BG carb, and K&N filter and I cannot believe how close it is for me. The wingnut at the top of my air cleaner just barely clears the hood, maybe 1/8" to spare. I'm doing bodywork right now, and one of the things on my list is to sand a little depression right at that point to gain additional room.

How tall/large is your air filter ?

They list the height as 2 3/16", but that is the filter element alone. Here's a link; http://www.summitracing.com/parts/KNN-66-3110/ This is a pricey filter but I did not want that motor to be starved for air.

Another variable I should have mentioned is motor mounts -- I'm using Energy Suspension red poly mounts. I do not have any phenolic spacer between the manifold and carb, and obviously don't have room for one.

I have tons of pics and can email them to you if you want, just send me a PM with an email address.
