View Full Version : Door Hinge Problem

Hello All

I have the body on the chassis and decided to start cutting out the holes for the door hinges. Drivers side went well, no issues I can see and the hinge seems to operate fine.

The passenger side is a different story. I marked the cutouts along the same lines as the drivers side and that all went well. The hinge however cannot operate. It seems as if the mounting plate for the hinge is too far forward compared to the body. I have included a pic of the passenger hinge below ( along with a reference pic of the drivers side ). Body is mounted as per the instructions and it seems to be lined up correctly. Rear body mounts are all lining up too.

Has anyone seen this before ? Any ideas as to what I can do to fix this ?

thanks!

Just make the hole bigger. Body is not perfectly symmetrical.

First question is do you have the hood positioned and latched? See Paul’s build post he has documented his build and issues involved extremely well. I as well had issues with the hinge on the drivers side you just need to cut the opening larger to accommodate the hinge movement.

I was a little hesitant to cut the body more as the hole will be right up against the shoulder of the door opening. But if that is what everyone has done, then that may be the only option.

The other idea I had was to shave a little off the hinge to give it a better profile to swing past the door opening.

Hi
As I am finding out, fit the bonnet first (hood) as has been mentioned :)
But for the doors, I cut the body as far as I could, then trimmed some off the hinge to stop the hole getting too big and out of shape with the others. Its amazing how little you need to take off for it to suddenly clear
