Hello Everyone,
My kit is on order (not sure October will ever get here) and I'm in the "nesting" process in my garage. Among improvements in heating, lighting, tools...etc, I recently had a friend offer to sell me his Quick Jacks. He's giving me a great deal but I'm wondering if they would actually be helpful to my build. From what I've seen, they might actually be in the way. What are your thoughts? I'm only considering them because they are borderline free (he owes me a favor or two).

I didn't use mine during the build but use them regularly now for routine maintenance and general work on the car. With the narrow frame on the Roadster it is tight getting in between them if you put them along the frame. While I've not done it I've seen others here on the forum put them perpendicular to the frame and raise the car that way. Seems a bit dicey with how narrow the main tubes are.
Which model does he have for you? If I recall the models that are rated the highest don't fit under the Roadster frame when the ride height is set to the typical 4 or 4 1/2 inches. I have the 3,000lb ones and I think the 5,000lb ones will also work.

They are the 5000# model. I was also worried a bit about the narrow frame and access. Hmmm, I guess I'll need to ponder this one a bit. I'm primarily thinking about the build right now so the maintenance following the build hasn't been a thought.

The 5000 lbs model works great and yes I am using it during the build. Works great and I do recommend it. Below is a picture from a couple months ago showing mid build.

It is nice as I have actually had to raise and lower the car more that I thought I would. Much easier then playing with a jack and jack stands. I actually use it to quickly get it on jack stands as well for times it might be in the way.

I have the 7,000 lb model of quickjacks. I would not do the build without them. They have saved my 58 year old back. I have no issues with getting the Roadster over them and lifting or lowering.
Got a great deat at SEMA and I think there are occational sales.

Quick jacks definitely made my rebuild endeavor easier. Jacking up a low-stanced car like the roadster is not fun with the conventional jack (you need a low profile and long reach jack) and jack stands. Take the offer and get it.

Thanks everyone for the insight! I'm going to add them to my growing collection of tools. Unfortunately, I'm passing the time waiting on my roadster to arrive by buying tools... I'm going to need an interim and less expensive hobby to get me to October.

Most of the pro-builders use them!

I use them to get the car up on jack stands then remove the quickjacks as they get in the way if you need to work under the car

I didn't get mine until late in my build. I changed my oil pan and they were very handy for that. Jack stands should always be used.

Works ok. Not a lot of room in between to work on the driveline. You can also position them sideways if you don't have the wheels on.

I’ve debated getting some, but they seem like an expensive convenience that don’t seem so convenient. A low pro/long reach floor jack and good jack stands works well and rolling around underneath with a creeper there is plenty of room. The quick jacks limit underside accessibility and you have to store them, move them around (larger than jack stands) and they seem limited to certain vehicles (ain’t worth a squat for my f250). While building my car, a stout dolly underneath held the entire car with the engine and drivetrain no problem, allowed me to roll the chassis around the shop and raised it higher so I wasn’t so hunched over working on it.
Don’t get me wrong… I’ve been tempted to get some and they look great but at the price point they are, I don’t think they gain much for me.
