Electric power steering pump with coyote

I've seen a few online posts talking about using a Volvo electric power steering pump with coyote mustang swaps.

Anyone gone down that route with their FF coyote build?

you have to use an electric PS model that sits pretty low down in the engine bay near the x-brace, I was going to use the ePowersteering setup but the motor sits too high in the engine bay with the coyote (e.g. the coyote is too wide)

I've also looked into installing the Saturn Vue electronic power steering unit, and came to the same conclusion that coyote engine is too wide to coexist in the engine compartment. If you don't have the power brake booster, you do have some space right on top of the driverside headers, but the EPS unit might not do well with all the heat coming from the headers. The only other option that I've seen is to install it right behind the dashboard, but that will require some major cutting and welding.

I did the electric power steering pump setup on a Roadster with a SBF. It also had hydroboost so it powered both. It worked fine but not sure it was really any better than an engine driven pump. I used the one from Fast Freddies, which I don't think is available any longer, with the Toyota MR2 pump and wasn't particularly cheap. Things are tighter in a Coyote, so agree with the other responses that it might not fit. The KRC Power Steering 66302125 Ford Boss 302 Coyote Hydraulic Power Steering Kit fits perfectly and works so well, not sure I'd look at anything else for a Coyote if you're going hydraulic. Available through multiple channels (Summit, etc.) plus direct from KRC. It's what FF provides as well if you select the power steering option with a Coyote.

I assume you understand that's what I was talking about with my response. The supplier (Fast Freddie) used the Toyota pump vs. the Volvo one. Visible in this picture from my build.

I fitted the Saturn Vue unit from epowersteer. Gen 1 coyote with FFR supplied headers. Mounted it on the front of the footbox in place of the lower steer shaft bearing. My car is RHD, and there was plenty of room. Controller is mounted on the inner guard. Has survived an Australian summer, so heat doesn't seem to be an issue. Totally stoked with the improvement in drivability.

The only issue was doing it as a retrofit. Aligning the upper steer shaft, plus measuring the multiple angles for the mounting bracket I fabbed wasn't fun. However it meant I still only used 2 universal joints in total, which made me happy.
