howdy all--

as many of you have seen over the years on my thread, I've been pretty absent! Lots of life changes, and I've come to the acceptance that I just don't have kit car ownership (or race car ownership) time or money in my life right now. It was a LOT of fun, I learned a ton, made a bunch of friends (some even named Frank), and will miss it dearly.

here's my build thread
https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?13414-Frank-s-818R-build

I'm parting it out because I built a new motor with an IAG block, and my transmission's axle seal is leaking again. I know I won't fix the trans in a reasonable time frame and without that I won't be able to properly break in/tune the engine, so the 818 wouldn't be driving. I am hoping the engine, all the various parts, and the 818 rolling chassis is my best avenue of selling it.

that said, I have many parts available including:
-IAG Stage 1 block, 2.0 head hybrid motor with IAG oil baffle/pickup, and a bunch of other bolt-on goodies. Hasn't been started.
-Transmission: Quaife QDH3Y in a 2007 WRX 5 speed case, forged ring/pinion gears, and an STi RA gear set. I can't make the axle seal seal to save my life. Don't know if the case is damaged, the diff isn't centered, or I'm just dumb.
-818R rolling chassis (probably more on that in its own post in the right section) with clean NC title
-STi TMIC (with the logo)
-VF39 turbo with the internal wastegate welded shut, an external BOV welded onto the up pipe
-AJW exhaust
-Crawford V1 AOS (no coolant plumbing)
-Grimspeed EBCS (3 port)
-STi OEM headers
-a box of parts from Mechie3 to make an air-to-water separator (unused)
-Group N transmission and engine mounts
-probably a bunch of other stuff I'm forgetting

if you are interested, happy to post more pics of stuff!

Hey Pearldrummer, sorry to hear you’re hanging it up. Before you do, you may already be aware that there is a left and a right side drive shaft seal. Get them mixed up and you’ll have a leak. Also, if you’re one of those who run extra transmission oil to account for the forward inclined mounting position, the oil may be above your driveshaft seal. The seal isn’t made to hold back oil above its working diameter. Anyway, good luck!

thanks for the advice! I've sent it to a transmission shop twice to install the seals cuz I didn't trust myself after the first leak, and no dice. Could easily be that simple on level, but I think I'm moving on from kit car life and focusing on house renovations and such.

Sorry to hear about your leaks. Those setbacks can be frustrating. If you're sold on parting it out, I am in the market for the carbon fiber splitter. Let me know if you have one to sell. If you change your mind and keep the build going, it'll be a great decision and best of luck. Either way, wish you well.
Thanks,
Dan

aw thanks Dan!

I am all in on parting it out. I have the APR rear wing, no matching front splitter. that what you're talking about?

Could the problem be not the installation of the seal, but damage to it when installing the axle? I also had two right side seals leak after I thought I was pretty careful about installing the axle. I purchased, I believe from Colonel Red, a tool for protecting the seal during axle installation which solved the problem.

As are others, I'm sorry to hear you are going this direction with your project. I've followed your build for years. If you are committed to the part out, I have a potential interest in the transmission. I'm a little concerned given the problems you've had and the fact that I'm sure you have a significant investment in it. PM me if you would like to discuss.
