View Full Version : Front suspension slightly toe out?

After I installed the front suspension, I noticed there's a slight toe out on both sides (with outer tie rod ends screwed all the way into the steering rack).

Is this an issue or will it fix itself after I put on some wheels and set it on the ground?

If it does correct that much with loading the suspension, you will have horrible bump steer. My car came 2nd hand with the steering rack installed, I'm guessing you need to shorten the rack ends but I don't know for sure.

Turn your steering arms around they are on backwards. Its a common mistake. They should face towards the wheel. I just relooked at the picture, are they Mustang donor spindles?

Disregard what I said.

First, make sure your rack is centered by counting the turns and make sure you have the same number of turns of the steering wheel both ways from center. Unscrew the outer tie rod ends from the inners and straighten the front "wheels" out. The front track is narrower than the rear, so if you get the rotors secured tight to the hubs and sight down the face of the rotor so that it hits just inside of the rear rotors, that will be pretty close to where you need to be as far as front toe. Now hold the inner and outer tie rods up next to each other and figure out where you need to cut the inner tie rod ends back to so that you have plenty of threads for adjustment but not so many that they bottom out inside the inner tie rod end....and then cut the inner tie rod ends to length.

Thanks for the tips Shane. I cut off about 1 inch from each side. Now they're about perfect! Will do a final alignment later, after I get the rear suspension on.
