Looking at the picture of the Cobra up for raffle, this is the shade of dark red I am looking to put on a project car I am building.
Does anyone know who painted this car as I would like to get the color code for the Ruby Red for reference.

It was done in South Africa by Backdraft. If it actually is Ford Ruby Red it's a tri-coat and the code is RR. Have you seen this one that I did recently? It's a custom mix that is not Ruby Red and is NOT a tri-coat.

Backdraft offers three metallic reds on their web page inventory.

IMO that looks like Monterey Red, but Ruby Red seems to be used more frequently.

Jeff, thanks for your response.
I want a color that looks a bit more exotic than typical OEM colors. I plan to go with a B/C candy like color from House of Kolor as I am trying to stay away from a tri-coat. I have a color fan deck on order that should have been delivered already, not a fan of Fedex right now. But I digress, yes the Rudy Red shown is a beautiful color, looks like the HOK Apple Red. I am looking to go with a color just a bit darker than shown. Picking a color is so dang difficult, I remember spending weeks with the color books from Da Bat before he painted my Cobra.

Thanks for the post, I agree the Monterey Red looks fantastic. Anyone know if it is a OEM color or a special manufacturers mix?

The BD in the raffle is Ruby Red. This is from the specs on the raffle car on the shows site:

“ A show quality two-stage Ruby Red with Black Magic body and side stripes in a base coat/clear coat paint finish. A single stainless steel roll bar is structurally mounted to the frame.”

Yeah I said it was Ruby Red in my original post, what I was after was a color code. A name means nothing without the color code formula.

This is a little off topic. The London car show does a very admirable thing donating that Cobra raffle money to charity. They have donated a ton over the years. I'm curious as the the shock the winner has when they see how much they have to pay in taxes on winning the car. 25% of assessed value to the Feds, then usually another 6% to DMV then I'm sure states get involved with their own tax of probably another 7% (depending on the state) because it is viewed as income from a wager. I have bought tickets for the last two years but only read the "contest rules" this year. I'll keep buying to donate to a good cause, and Ruby Red is my favorite color.....

Alan, Identifying the color, especially with several similar available can be inaccurate. Then camera settings and light conditions can distort the actual color. BaT has been flush with Cobra replicas in the last week including this red Backdraft. Based on your comment, this looks appropriate:

If this looks right, you could contact the owner or interrogate the VIN, perhaps through Backdraft. They would also have the paint ID.

I can tell you as the owner of the car Jeff has in his post, that the color shown is a very deep red with an insane glow in the sunlight. It's made by Painthouse Customs in Texas. Randy Borcherding is the master craftsman behind the color.

Scott: Thanks for the suggestion to look at Painthouse Customs. I checked out their website and the Maroondy Pearl on the 51 truck and 62 Vette looks fantastic. It is their own special mix, hopefully not out of my price range.

Alan,
The color I used on Scott’s car is “Randyapple Red 3”. Randy also has Randyapple 1 and 2 which are both a bit darker but keep the same flash. Check those out as well. Cost wise the material is not inexpensive but you don’t have to pay the additional labor of a tri-coat. Give Randy a call and order up some samples!

Alan:

As the person that photographed the LCS raffle Cobra, the photo does not do the paint justice. The Ruby Red is so much better looking than it shows in the photographs.

Would suggest if you have a BD dealer close to you that has a Ruby Red in stock, you should plan to visit and view the color in person. Can truly say, this is the best looking Cobra replica our Ohio Cobra Club has ever raffled.

Looking at it makes me want to repaint my FFR Roadster Ruby Red.

Yes. It is a stock GM color that was exclusive to Corvette for a couple of years, and then spread across the line. It is Red Jewell, WA301N.
