So I've searched the forum and the build threads, but I have a question that I haven't found an answer to. I'm building a Coupe with a SBF 347. It has a Holley 4160 carb on an Edelbrock Performer intake. I have a Carter 4070 inline electric rotary vane fuel pump. The instructions say to mount it close to the fuel tank, as low as possible. So that's kind of a trick given the back frame of the coupe. Is it OK if it slightly higher that the tank? I'm thinking of the cross beam between the fuel tank and the rear end.

I know most of you guys went the Coyote route. To you SBF or SBC carb guys, where did you put your fuel pump?

Thanks,
Drew

The issue with where you mount the pump is that they aren't good at sucking up the fuel, they are pusher pumps, they work best where they can gravity feed as much as possible.
Best bet would be to get a in tank pump since there is no good low mounting point for the pump near the tank.
The other issue for you is the size and configuration of the 4070 pump, an inline cylindrical type pump is smaller and much easier to mount.
You could also consider a engine mounted mechanical pump, they are built to draw the fuel from the tank, but you have more issues with vapor lock possible.

Personally, if I were doing a build like yours, I would use a throttle body fuel injection, like the Holley Sniper and a good in-tank EFI pump. Cures so many drivability and tuning issues by getting rid of that carburetor.

Also, is this a IRS car or a live axle?

Live axle 3 link. I bought the Carter pump because I want a low pressure pump. I have a set of Weber IDFs that I'm going to use once I get the whole thing up and running and will need a low pressure pump. Maybe I can just make a mount that attaches to the cross beam but places the pump more toward the bottom of the tank.

I know plenty of Superformance owners that mounted a Carter pump on the frame. Fuel had to go up and out of the tank with the pump somewhere near the bottom of the tank. Always seemed to work. Only regular problem was with the wiring. Most found that if the dash switch was used to activate a relay and the pump hooked & fused to the battery it worked out well. Be sure to run sufficient gauge wire to the pump. Skinny wires and fuel pumps are not a great combination.

I've run an Edelbrock Vic Jr mechanical pump and carb and will continue to do so.

You can run a high pressure pump with no issues, just have to use a bypass style regulator, return the excess fuel back to the tank, and that keeps the fuel cooler too.
And, even with the low pressure pump, once you get the webers on you'll need a good bypass regulator anyway, they run at lower fuel pressure than the Holley.
