Awhile back, with the help of Doc, I got my turn signals and hazards wired through a relay system. I have the square taillights that are LEDs, but my fronts were standard incandescent. I plan on doing the plan from the FIXIT garage that John detailed in his build thread and was kind enough to send me an even more detailed description by email. This will obviously add LEDs to the front turn signals. The question that I have is, with the relays in the circuit, will I still need the electronic flasher unit for the turn signals, and also one for the hazard flashers? I'm so pathetic at understanding the wiring but I seem to remember someone mentioning that with relays that the electronic flasher units were not required because the circuit still draws the same. If I don't need them, I'd like to avoid the expense since at this time I probably could have bought a Ferrari for what I have invested in my car!

Anyhow, I'm going to start on this today and if I need to change those out, I can do them after I'm done. I'm just sitting around waiting for Ken to finish up my paint and trying to get some items completed that will be tougher after the body in back on.

Thanks for the help guys.

I think you'll end up needing something like these:

CEC Industries EF32RL Flasher https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JXLH7CG/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_X5AK6TKFMJQNSZSN78TF

These solved Chris' LED conversion from mixed to full LED: https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/showthread.php?36627-460-465USMC-s-MK4-Build-9890-Front-Running-LED-Conversion-Solved&p=484319&viewfull=1#post484319

Thanks Dave. So even with the relays in the circuit I'll still need these? In his build thread he mentions that he got them 2 for the $12. It looks like they're $12 each. So, order two of these?

Now I just determined that I've run out of hot-in-run circuits in my auxiliary fuse panel. I did find that I never used the "radio memory" wire. Is that a HIR circuit or is it hot-at-all-times?

Radio memory is a BATT always hot circuit. Not sure if I fully understand the question on the flasher relays. You need them, but not sure if what you have will wok or if you'll end up with the same issues Chris experienced.

Thanks Dave. I'll just go ahead and order two and replace both flasher units. Now to find a circuit I can use for these lights.

Why do you need another circuit, what are you using now? Flashers and relays are two different items. Relays switch on and off the power to the device, the flashers cause the lights to "flash', you know on an off

Rich,
I was just trying to figure out if the relays in the turn signal/flasher wiring would eliminate the need for the electronic flasher units. I not good with the electrical aspects of the build, but I do understand the difference.

I'm not following the need for relays either. But there's no downside to switching to solid state flashers. They will work regardless of light type and whatever else you have going on. Just switch them and don't look back. One each in turn signal and hazard sockets.

Thanks Paul. I've got them ordered and they should be here tomorrow.

Hi Rick,

Sorry if my post was misleading on the cost of the LED flashers. I ordered two. They sent me two sets of two. So, I initially thought I had misread the fine print. In hindsight I think they simply sent me an extra order. I will correct my post.

Best wishes on getting your setup working!

Hey Chris, no worries! I was just in my normal "cheap b*stard" mode. I ordered two so we'll see what they send me.
