Considering this is quite a "DIY" crowd here I thought I'd share some of my latest findings regarding paint stripper.
My pending Cobra build is preempted by building the engine and power coating some wheels, both of which will need stripping and painting. I was planning on having the wheels sand blasted by the place doing the PC, but for $100/wheel I just wanted to see if there were other options.
Building a DIY powder coating oven is easy. Just get an oven from your local Craigslist and gut the good stuff out and build one out of metal studs, sheet metal, insulation, and rivets. The problem I can see is getting the old paint off. I've done my own sand blasting but it was a mess, and not very friendly to my garage with all the dust it created. I even built a "hood" to do the blasting in and dust still got everywhere.
Paint stripper is the only other DIY option, but as of 2019 paint stripper had the balls cut off of it and it's nowhere near as good as it used to be. Almost every youtube video I watched had more negative comments than positive about the performance. Until now...
Klean Strip makes an Aircraft Ultra Paint Remover. I just tested it tonight. One spot on the wheel, and another on the trunk (which was painted after the factory paint). The results speak for themselves. Easy peeling of paint on both test beds.
