Hello,

I'm working on a friend's MKI and I need to know the Part number and or application for the Inner and outer tie rod ends, please. (Manual Rack)
I called tech support and they said that it was from a 1987 Mustang. I bought the tie rod ends prior to stating the repairs and now that I'm half way into it, I found that neither the inner or outer tie rod ends work.
I cannot find any information on line nor on the forums.

Thank you for your help in advance.

Mk I racks were donor racks 87-93. Tie rod ends varied some in length of the threaded portion of the end but all on the ball joint side were still the same.
What do you mean they don't work. You need to be more specific

It’s probably a flaming river or Unisteer brand.

michael everson,

Thank you, that is what I was thinking as well. I went to Unisteer's website looking for part numbers for the tie rod ends but I was not successful.

Might need to buy a new rack. Sure looks like a Flaming River.

Flaming River outer ties rod ends are the same 9/16 x 18 as a mustang rack.

If the outer tie rod ends do not fit his rack, the flaming river will have the same problem.

And I don't believe that the Unisteer racks were being promoted back in 2002...I only remember the FR and Mustang rack options.

As others have already stated, I would recommend starting over with a new rack and its associated hardware.

If the decision to go with a new rack is made, be aware that the input shaft of the new rack might have a different spline count.

De-powered power racks and manual racks are different.

Find one with the same spline count as the one you have now, so that the adapter can be re-used.

For what it's worth the Flaming River inner tie rod to rack thread is M14x1.5, inner to outer is 9/16-18.

The least expensive option is to go to NAPA or other parts store and buy either a new or rebuiltrack and tie rods to fit the 87-93 Mustang. I purchased a rack complete with tie rods from NAPA for under $100.
