Hello Forum Experts!

We managed to drop the engine into our MKIV last weekend. We thought we did it right, but now we are installing the transmission mounting plate and wonder if the engine is too high, the engine mounts were installed wrong, or perhaps Mike Forte sent us the wrong transmission mounts. When the transmission is allowed to rest on the crossmember, it clearly looks too low and out of alignment. But when we jack it up so that transmission and driveshaft look straight (and to install the transmission mounting plate, there is still about 2 inches between the bottom of the transmission mount and the plate. We have a Boss 363 engine with a sniper kit married to a TKX. We got them both from Mike Forte and installed the engine mounts and transmission mount that he shipped us. We also included the three spacers he sent for the transmission mount. Did we put the engine mounts on wrong? If the engine mounts were thinner the engine could sit lower. Do we just need a much, much thicker transmission support mount?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I can’t see the transmission poly mount in the pics. Do you have that?

As Henry said&; you haven’t installed the transmission mount, only spacers.

65Cobradude is showing you a picture of the transmission mount, you are replying with pictures of the engine mounts. The transmission mount has a polyurethane insert to absorb vibrations and then you use the spacers to take up any extra gaps.

No, the pic 7 in the original batch as well as pics 3,4, and 5 in the newest batch show a trans mount. I didn't see it in the first batch because it is black and the pic is small. Open any of the pics I listed in something where you can zoom in and you will see the mount. So now, what is causing the problem? I don't know.

Quick update: It appears I was shipped a GM transmission mount by the manufacturer by mistake. Mike Forte is right on top of it and shipping me a new mount. I should get it and be able to install it this weekend. I'll let you know if that solves the problem. Thank you all for your help. For those of us building one of these cars for the first time we have no way of knowing if its a bad part and the assumption is the problem is "operator error" , in other words, me.

Cheers,
