Chin Rash

Good Day,

I have a bit of an issue. A while back I bottomed my car out on a very bumpy road. As a result i have some scrapes on the front chin of the car.

I would like to clean this up. You can't see the scrapes unless you lay on the ground. I bought some touch up paint in aerosol cans. I want to get some pointers on how to fix this without taking it to a paint shop. As I said you can't see when walking around the car. It just bothers me.





Any help or pointers would be appreciated

I did the same thing on a Lotus Elise. You can “fix” it yourself, but it will take some serious sanding, body filler, primer and paint. You can use rattle can, but an observer would see the difference if they got down on their knees. The stripes make it more complicated. It would take some serious time and effort, and if you’re like me, it will still bug you, even if no one else notices.

Or you can get the guy who painted it or some other pro to fix it. Probably could be fixed for $1000-1500. Maybe less.

If you think it bugs you now, it will really bug you if you’re less than satisfied with the results.

Automotive Touch Up can get you an exact match in a rattle can. They are great and I've used them for years. Make sure you buy their base coat in both colors and use their clear coat. You'll also need to sand in between each coat of base and clear. Not cheap paint, but worth it.

I’m guessing the majority of us have this to some degree - I did it pulling out of my driveway straight instead of at an angle. I don’t like it and it bothers me too, but only when I’m under the car.

Hi Kpt112,

I scraped up the front underside of my Daytona ( Dumb fault of my own). The scrape was on the right and left underside in the front. I did not feel confident sanding and doing body filler, so I used blue and white touch up paint that had a small brush and pin point applicator (Dupli-Color).
I painted over each gouge .

This is the result. You can only see it if you get under the car.

I feel your pain. The bulk of the scratches appear to be on the LH stripe. If it was me I would sand, fill, tape, and paint (with the aerosol you have ordered) that portion of the stripe below the cooler. I would then clear, color-sand and buff that area. For the blue area, I would use Bob-STL's trick, then color-sand, and buff. Make sure you tape off/cover/bag the car well as the overspray gets everywhere. I usually set a fan(s) up at the end of the garage to blow any overspray out the door, make sure you move your DD's as well. Good luck. Scott

Thanks for the kind words, It is good to know I am not alone in getting battle scars. I contact a paint guy and he will most likely happy some filler and sand. I told him i wanted to use rattle can paint since it is so hard to see. I will post pictures once I have it done.

You mean, like it had very large speed bumps, or were you jumping curbs ?:confused::)

Maybe time for a 4x4..lol
