View Full Version : Trunk Hinge Support Hoop Question

So this question kind of died on the vine in my build thread so I figured I'd give it a try here on the main board. I have installed lights on both side-walls of the upper shelf of the trunk. To do so, I need to run a single wire across the hoop to which the trunk hinges are attached (see below). The installation manual appears to show that the body does not rest on this hoop but I just wanted to make sure as I am not in a position to put the shell on at this time.
For those of you that have run wires across here - how did you do it? I was thinking of running the wires along the back of the hoop but wasn't sure how to best avoid the hinges for the trunk. Does anybody have a good photo showing how they did this - or if not - showing how the body and hinges are mounted in that area? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Some photos showing how I have my wires currently mocked-up are below:

There is plenty of room on top.
Won’t be a problem.

Why not run the loop around the front of the trunk (firewall) and eliminate any fuss. I wouldn't put any wires on top of the tubes where body/sealer could interfere.

or... run the wire under the trunk floor? You're at a stage where these options are easy to do (or at least easier). Jut my 2 cents.

Mike is right (small wonder as he's built dozens of these cars). As you can see in the picture below, there's plenty of room on top. Wrap the wires in some loom, install a few nutserts in the back of the 3/4" tube, and hold the assembly in place with a few R-clamps.

This is great to hear. I figured the hoop was more there as a structural member to support the trunk hinges then run perfectly along the bottom of the shell but just wanted to make sure. This will make for a much cleaner install.

These were both options I considered as well I just wanted to avoid drilling extra holes and all of the other complexities required for these routes unless absolutely necessary.

The fiberglass body shape is not always true and the fitting on the frame requires tweaking/adjustments to make it fit properly over the tires and align with race jacks.
Having said all that in most builds the rear of the body sets above the trunk hoop.
In my build I put foam weather stripping on top of the hoop and the body does touch that except laterally left and right.
Running wires behind and not on top IMHO will not cause any problems with body fitting.
