I wanted to introduce myself as i am positive that we will have a lot of questions along the way.

My name is Mike (35)and my wife is Julie(35). We have a 15yr old girl (Alyssa) and a 10yr old boy (Steven). I used to be heavy into muscle cars when i was a kid, Novas, Falcons, Mustangs, Lemans, Firebirds, etc... When we had our daughter i had to sell my cars since they just were not practical for our new family. My wife and I always dreamed of building a Kit car or doing a frame off restoration. Years back we were looking at kits and really liked the idea of building a car from the bottom up without having to restore the parts first, using all new parts! But the time was not right and it is a huge investment, so we put it on our "one day list".

So the past 10 years i have been very heavy into collecting 1/4 scale RC cars. They were built in the early 80's until the late 90's. They stopped production because they were very expensive to build and cost a lot to buy. I actually went crazy overboard and at one time had one of the largest collections in the world. I also started a website that brought collectors from all around the world together. WWW.quarterscalelegends.com and my daughter and I started making videos on the history of certain cars http://www.youtube.com/user/quarterscalelegends?feature=mhee . I had a great run with it, but realized it may be time to move onto other hobbies.

A couple months ago we started looking at kits again. Everything pointed to FF. Sure there are other kits out there, but nothing that stacked up to the complete experience that FF offers. We were NOT interested in buying a frame and body from some guy building them out of his garage. We looked at reviews, bought the manual off the FF site, Looked at other kits, etc. Always comming back to FF. We ordered the brochure and video off the FF site. It arrived very fast and i will say it was VERY professional. Big star for FF. So i started selling some of my quarterscale collection to fund this new adventure. The day i had enough money, i made the call to FF.

I called FF to speak with a salesman. Spoke to Brian Z. Wicked friendly guy with a lot of good info. He really did a nice job on getting me a good quote. I would say he went above and beyond even though i stated he did not need to, but he still did. HUGE star for FF!!

Emailed Brian and placed a deposit on our complete roadster kit with options!! Completion date of 12/03... oh man, MIGHT get it before christmas! Keeping my fingers crossed!

Called in and made a small change to my order with Rick M. Another great guy, not the typical sales guy that answers the phone. I am sure he has sold 100's of these cars but he was still interested in MY project. Every dealing with FF just supports the reason why i went with them.

????
We recieved a very nice letter in the mail from FF welcoming us to the family and what to expect. Sure my daughter thought it was a little cheesy, but we thougth it was neat. Taking the time to thank the customer and give them a heads up on how it works is a first class move. Another huge star for FF.

Spoke to stewart transport. Very happy with their explaination and service on the phone. One of the easiest calls i have made. I have always said you are only as good as the people you surround yourself with and obviously FF feels the same way!

So here we sit, waiting and dreaming of the day we get to take our OWN pics of delivery day. This is going to be a family adventure. The kids and my wife are all going to help with the build. They are extremely excited. We cant wait to see what else this great journey brings us. Hopefully this will be something our kids will remember for ever.

Our build specs so far.

-MK4 complete kit
-Polished side pipes
-Full length headers
-Hallibrand wheels
-351 block possibly stroked to 408
-TKO 600 trans
-3.55 rear end?
-manual steering and brakes until i go cart and see for myself how effective they are

Lastly a couple pics of cars from my quarterscale collection. These two have always been my favorite and are inspiration for the build also. Yes, thats a little v8 in there that does run!!!

Welcome. Building an F5 will be very similar to building your RC cars, just on a 1:1 scale. Big difference is you can drive these from the DRIVER'S SEAT! Congrats on your order.

Mike, Julie, Alyssa and Steven.....Welcome to the Community!! Your 1/4 scale collection is amazing, and it's easy to see that you're a certifiable car nut like so many of us here. ;.)

The Factory Five Racing experience is a family affair for us as well, and the six years we've been "in the fold" have been among the best years of our lives.......I look forward to following your build, and to meeting your family one day in the future.....Best wishes! Karen

It's really an exceptional company of people who care deeply about those we work for. I won't waste your time crowing about us, just know that you will make lifelong friends and build a family heirloom and have a ton of adventures along the way! Welcome to the FFR Community!

thanks for the welcome everyone. I just hope we can do the build justice!!! We are so VERY excited, nobody can stop thinking about it!!

One thing is that some of the people i have told about us doing this asked why dont we just buy one thats complete? They also try to tell me that there is no way i will get my money back out of it. Well, i dont think they get the point. Building a car like this is not just about the end result. Its about the experience and time spent building it. Our daughter is already 15-1/2. We are trying to maximize our time with her while we still have her attention. This will certainly be something the whole family can spend an hour on or HOURS on every night together.

I just want to thank factory five for offering a quality product at a fair price with all the support one would need.

We will be posting a build thread when our kit comes. Julie has already code named it "scoopy" My son has named it "Death star" Julie does not like the idea of having death involved in the name of a car :) So hopefully we can agree to a name before it comes!

Welcome to the community!! Remember to take a lot of pic's of the build along the way. This will help if you get "stuck" and will also be a Keepsake album for you when you get finished! Don't be shy about asking for advice here there are many very helpful and experienced people here. Good luck and many happy times with your family on your journey !!
