Paint mixing question

So the guy who is painting my car prefers to mix his own paint, based on the color codes I give him. He has owned a chain of (four) body shops, sold the chain, and is now retired. I heard lots of good things about him, seen his work. Even Dave at F5 has said good things about him. Paint guy claims, in his experience, that buying paint (on line) per a Dizler #/Dupont paint code gave him erroneous results. He prefers to mix the paint formula himself based on the paint code I give him. I have absolutely no painting experience. Should I go with his preference (just in pure respect) or should I buy the paint myself. He did say he would give me the formula (mixing details) for future reference. "All feedback is a gift". Any paints gods out there that can help me here? Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't tell a cook which ingredients to use in their own kitchen. ask him to so some spray outs first to confirm you like the color he's mixing.

No, I get partial gallons of latex from the local Habitat for Humanity ReStore. You can’t beat the prices.

He's a professional and knows how to mix, it's a standard practice. I suspect that paint bought online and how it looks/acts will be dependent on age, who mixed it (Monday hangover), etc. Go with the Pro.

I'll see your 25 reasons and raise it another 25.

OP: Leave the paint and supplies to the experts, he has experience spraying out what he does, knows how it reacts, and knows what he will need to get the job done based on the temp and humidity of the specific day and hour he is laying down your cars paint. Having the paint mix (down to 1/10th of a gram) formula breakdown is all you need in the end.
