View Full Version : Will Corbeau RRX Seats Fit the Coupe? (Compared to the Evolution-X)

Hi All, I know there is no definitive answer (and maybe there is) but seeking opinions on whether these seats might fit the coupe. They are Corbeau RRX which are recliners. The seat and shoulder portions are narrower than the fixed-back Evolution-X that we know fit. The bottom of the seat back is 1 inch wider than the Evolution X. In addition, being a recliner, they have the 1 to 1.5 inches of plastic covering the reclining handle....not sure that is included in the seat measurements. I don't care if the reclining handle is easily accessible, likely a set-it and forget it sort of thing, I just like that these seats will work for 5 points, have better leg bolstering, and more room for the thicker through the middle folks such as myself  (Husky I think...)....Appreciate any and all input. Maybe someone out there has tried these, but not turning anything up on search results:
Anyhow here are measurements of the RRX vs Evo-X

Are they available on amazon prime so you could send them back if they won't fit?
And, you could call corbeau and ask if the recline mechanism and cover adds to the width.

Unfortunately they are not, also appears Corbeau seats are a several month wait as well (3-4 months) so to get a set, find they don’t fit, and send back for a different set could be a 6-8 month ordeal…

FYI - I ordered these a month ago, and they told me they would be Mid March before I have them. They are VERY similar in dimensions to the Evo seat (Paul Borror was even nice enough to check his Gen 3 coupe and told me that with the measurements that he see's, he felt pretty confident that they would work). I'd love to let you know for sure, but I don't have my hands on them yet! If you can wait a month, I SHOULD be able to let you know.
Oh.... and nice choice on seats....lol

Great! That was my suspicion as well - Was going to wait until March sometime to order mine anyhow so that timing would be perfect! Looks like the recliner handle cover comes off easily as well if they need to lose a bit of width...I just like the idea that they sit square to the steering wheel/column and not kanted off to the side....Everyone says the Evo Xs will sit straight.

Same thoughts and concerns - I'm not opposed to taking the seats apart and trimming a few things to get them to work.....
I'll try to let you know when I get them - not that I have 100% confidence in their estimated ship date....

As promised, here is a short review of the Corbeau RRX. In short, YES - they will fit. I would say that they will probably work as well as the seats Paul Borror used in his build (aka - the bible).
I found that the way to get the MOST room with them was to use the pass. seat in the drivers side (And vise versa) Gains a LITTLE bit of extra room - and the pictures that I have are using that setup. It puts the back incline adjust handle in a super tight and awkward location, but after I have it set where I would want it - I don't really care if I can't reach it, or it isn't useable. (of course that's if you're trying to maximize space. If you mount it an inch forward, you can use the drivers side seat in the drivers side of the car.
I'm not sold on these for my purposes though, as I think I can get at least another 3-4 inches of leg room, and I've found I need it. It would be "do able" for me with this seat, but I'm going to try a few other things in an attempt to maximize the space. I believe that you COULD get a little more room by moving the seatbelt anchor points out a little bit. It's a maybe though, as the back of the seat begins to contact the diagonal frame member behind your left kidney (if you're sitting in the seat) - I want to see if I can find something else that works without having to do that.
Just for reference - the picture with the tape measure shows approximately 45" from the panel behind the brake pedal to the contact point for your rear end in the back of the seat.
Let me know if you need any other pics or have other questions (or if you wanna buy some seats that have never been installed!!)

Just something to consider ..... a few years ago when I began my Porsche 917 project I looked at seats. I ended up buying a Pair built be " Sparco " ... they look almost exactly like the RRX sets made by Corbeau. However they were less than 1/2 the cost.... I think the quality is the same .... my criteria was comfort, with as low a seat as possible. When seated my butt is only 2 inches from the floor and this is using adjustable tracks. They are recliners and this allows you bring the front edge of the seat up approx. 4 to 5 inches ( which will then support your thighs ) .... and bring tilt the back forward so you are not in a Reclining position., which to me is very un-comfortable to drive with. ... Sparco does make race approved seats in many designs and sizes. I think FFR is using them in the new F-9 ..... check them out, it's worth your time ..... good luck ... Mike

Fantastic! Thanks so much for the reply. I--unlike most (and Rian)--like to be close to the steering wheel with elbows just about 90 degrees and when I checked out the dark blue coupe when visiting FFR felt about 4 inches too far back with the stock seats. So now time to go find a tape measure and check my estimated same measurement you just did!

So measured my daily driver and that seat (same measurement, firewall to seatback) is 46", so pretty close, and my brake pedal is 5" off the firewall, so 41" seatback to brake.
Rian, do you have those seat backs reclined at all in your picture? I'm planning on mounting to the adjustable seat mount....I need plus or minus an inch or 2 to be in my particular "sweet spot"...
If you get a chance could you please take an overview shot showing the seat bottom relative to the seatbelt mounting points (if the seats are still in that is), and a front-ish shot of their width relative to the space in there?....just wondering if they are much further up (couple inches) than where Paul mounted the Evolutions, and the other variable will be whether there are mounting points there with no interference from the frame.
Finally looks like they took about 2 and a half months to get there? Just want to time my order to line up with car arrival....
Thanks again.

Hey Richard!
So sorry, I didn't see this until yesterday. The seats where as reclined as I could get them in the picture. I already have my new seats in the car, so I can't get the pic very easily, but I CAN tell you that the seat was literally up against the seatbelt mounting point to the drivers left hand side. (if you could re-locate that mounting point, you could gain 3 to 4 inches.....) With the recline, they were also up against that left rear frame rail (so if you COULD go back further with the seat, you would HAVE to bring the seat back up. I would say that they were a good 1-2 inches further back that what Paul has in his pictures at that point. I would say that if you're 5'9" or less, it'll probably work great. I tend to sit further back/more reclined than most people, so I just needed the extra space...
I ended up going with the sparco Evo - L. I'll have some pics etc. and will post it soon

So were you able to return these seats? I have a Mustang restomod project in work. If you cannot return them, are you going to sell?

Can't return - also I had them made with the seat heaters and the lumbar support stuff.
Definitely interested in selling them if there are interested buyers!
