Being exactly one month out from my completion date, I am wondering what are the things that have been backordered lately.

I have sourced out the following just in case:

*Wilwood brakes
*IRS center section and knuckles (Forte)

It would be nice to know what was missing from you guys that have recently received your kit.

Thanks,
Ted

3 months since delivery and still waiting on:

rod ends and bushings for IRS
pwr steering rack
coupe gauges
driveshaft
wilwood brakes
and a few more misc. things.

My game is to guess what's coming in the Fedex box. Have one coming Friday that is 4.4 lbs in a 18x14x8 box. What could it be? Hoping it's my IRS parts.

Hey Mike,

Thanks for the reply. I believe FFR has discontinued the side louvers altogether. I know Finish Line has some nice ones (I also already purchased). Glad to hear that the backorders aren't too bad right now. I am considering going with aftermarket wheels because of this issue. What size did you order? I have 18s on order. Even if I get aftermarket wheels, I may keep the FFR since they went up $600 but I got them for $2000 and just sell them.

Today is 11 months and 5 days since I picked up my roadster from FFR and I just today received my last backordered part. Honestly, most of the backordered parts came within the first 3 months after pickup and I never felt like the stuff I was waiting on was slowing me down too much. There's always something else that you can do to work around what you are waiting on.

My MK IV came in September, the big ticket item I'm waiting on is the steering rack. Got just about everything else that I need to go forward.

I think the answer to your question changes monthly, depending on what FFR gets delivered. You have a lot of work to do no matter what's on POL though. Enjoy.

Sounds like the steering rack is a common theme - Is this the power steering rack? Is there an aftermarket alternative?

Thanks guys for this info. I am just assuming my front end won't be done for several months (steering rack & lCAs). I'm just excited to start my build thread.

JeffP, you are right on the theme of steering racks being a problem.

Got my kit in early December, so I'm sure that I'm down the list from the others that have waited longer.

I'm still missing:

Power steering rack
Engine motor mounts (Coyote)
Steering shaft upper knuckle
Door latches
Front hub nuts (of all things!)
Fuel tank vent grommet
Rod ends for the sway bars (just went ahead and bought some from McMaster)
Silicone intake elbow
Shifter & knob
Misc. electrical parts
Wilwood brakes

I was also missing the IRS bushings but ordered some from Prothane Suspension and they weren't too expensive (less than $20 I think). About a month later FFR sent a POL box with the bushing in there, so I've got spares I guess.

CaptB is right - plenty to do while you wait. Enjoy it - I'm having a blast!

Gentlemen-

I am not sure if this will be helpful or not, but just in case. Some time ago, I was able to source my PS rack from Rock Auto at a very competitive price. At the time, there were a great number of quality concerns from folks getting them at their local big-box auto parts stores, which is why I turned to Rock Auto. I can't speak to their current supply, but it was quick and easy for me at the time.

Good luck y'all!

Regards,

Steve

Do you have a part number and was it for power steering?

Be careful of buying a non FFR rack. I bought several from Oreillys and all were the wrong ratio.
