Has anyone ever put a grille or some other kind of protector for the radiator on their car? I'd think with the car sitting so low the rad is exposed to anything being chucked up from the road.

Search the forum using the term “honeycomb” and you’ll find some solutions. There’s also a number of grills people have fabricated.

With my new radiator replacement, I installed NOMEX from Speedway Motors. It's very easy to work with and install.

I ordered a nomex radiator guard last October. Same one as Dave (Papa). Still waiting. :( Several backorders. Latest estimate is May 1. I don't know if this is supply chain or what, but be aware that you might be waiting a bit if you order one. Unless you know of some place that has them in stock?

I do see a few places that claim to have it in stock:

If you're looking for an actual grille you're pretty much on your own because there isn't anything available "off the shelf". I did the body and paint on this car and the owner fabricated the grilles for the radiator opening, brake ducts and oil cooler scoop.

I did a grill which can be viewed in the first picture from my graduation link shown below:

I got the material from Custom Car Grills, linked below, and am happy with the outcome.

put this right on top of the radiator. Works great and looks awesome.
Plus you will have enough161390 left over to do the brake duct holes.....

I fabricated a radiator screen for the radiator and oil cooler. I used 1/4" wire screen material for the screen and bar and angle stock aluminum for the "structure" to hold and support the screen. The screens sit off the rad/oil cooler so a rock hitting it would not impact the rad/oil cooler.

Similar to what others have done. I used Stainless steel expanded sheet obtained from Online metals. In process final pending. Although with gaps of3/8” quite a bit could still get through.

I bought my car with this grille installed. Custom made I think since I haven't seen one like this before. I wasn't a fan so I removed it, probably will sell it at some point.

This has a sheet of honeycomb nomex placed in front of the radiator. It's laying just over top of the radiator. I was going to attach it but found that it never moved. Also by not fastening it to the radiator it made it easy to pull it out to wash out the bugs. (I clean out the bugs to it doesn't mess up the FFR logo!) I have had zero issues with car overheating. This is the same nomex that dirt racers use. I got a 19 x 26 sheet and it's 1/2 inch thick.
