View Full Version : Transmission mount holes not lining up?

Running 351w and T5 transmission.
I'm revisiting something I need to fix, my transmission mount does not seem to line up with my A Frame bracket from FFR. It's about 1/2 inch off.
I read on the old site and someone has a similar issue and others suggested checking the engine mounts.
My mounts only went on one way that I recall.
Then here's where I my trans hits vs the holes. I can move it to the side to meet, but not back and forth. I've tried installing the A Frame above and below the transmission tunnel mount and that doesn't make enough difference. Any thoughts?

Mounts look right. Not easy to get them backwards. Pretty common engine/trans combination. Should fit. A little hard to tell from your pictures -- are you trying to center the trans in the frame at the tailshaft? It's intended to be offset to the right about one inch.

I had a similar issue when I did mine a few years ago on my T5. I just had to flip the mount over, and it fit fine.

Yeah, taking a picture while laying under the car and holding the bolt isn't great. It's not the left and right aspect. I'm still 1/2 away from a forward backward.
The transmission mount? I was looking at that, it looks like it is the same either way, but I'll give that a shot, thank you!

I thought it didn't matter and was thinking about drilling new holes. But I stopped and went to have a beer (or two?) and posted the issue on the forum. Someone said flip it over, and it worked!! Hope that's the issue!!

Alright, I tried swapping the transmission mount, and nothing. It is the same either way. So, I have loosely bolted the A Frame to the trans mount thinking I could get the other bolts in and slowly tighten it down that way, it's really off!
I took a picture so you can see how much of a gap there is between the back of the A frame and the F5 frame it needs to bolt into.
Any thoughts?

Is there a trans mount that has off centered holes I could get? This is baffling.

It's hard to tell from the pictures but did you install the transmission mount spacer? It's a black powder coated piece that shifts the mounting holes towards the rear.
Here it is on page 34 of the coyote install manual. Not sure if it's provided in other kits if you don't order the coyote.

he's got a 351w which shouldn't need that spacer.
I know that FFR is making different A frames to accommodate for the TKX trans. maybe they sent you the wrong one?

Well, my brother does welding. I think I'm going to go to him and we'll cut and reweld where the mount attaches to accommodate what I need.
Thank you, all.
