Hi all new to this but looking to see if anyone can help in guidance on registering gtm in California.
I was able to go down to dmv with appointment and managed to get the fees and everything paid for the start of the process. I’ve been building my car for the last 10 years it’s finally finished I went down and got the vehicle Vin verification and the brake and light but they’re telling me that I need a smog everywhere I read it doesn’t need it and I don’t think I’m gonna be able to pass smog I went with a TwinTurbo LS three. If there’s anybody that can give me a little guidance or help on how to go around the smog the requiring before I take it to a referee I greatly appreciate it thank you all

I just finished my SB100 registration in December. I have a roadster with a Gen II Coyote, not a gtm, so don't know if it's different, but the only smog that was required for me was a PCV closed loop system.

Exactly who is telling you it needs a smog? Seems you’re on track with SB100 steps and your next step is an appointment for a BAR phone call.

Do a search of "SB100". There is a good thread detailing the process and includes a number of individuals' experiences.

The smog test they are talking about is a check by the Cali Bureau of Air Resources (BAR). The BAR inspection is usually more about paperwork with a little inspection. They are most interested in the PCV connections, and in my case, the right fuel filler cap.

Ok great info i will look into for sure . As far as the guy behind the dmv desk was the one saying I needed the smog not sure if he even knows what’s needed.I just didn’t want to go down somewhere and next thing they do is give me gross polluter or anything like that.I will look into adding pcv valve to car not sure how just yet.
Thanks again

If your going full SB100 you absolutely do not need "smog" on the pushrod engines you only need a fully enclosed PCV system with PCV rated lines. I just had a friend do his Coyote and it already had PCV lines on it, might be the same case for LS engines. It is a complete visual inspection, once it is over you can toss everything out. Once you get your SB100 tag inside the engine compartment you are golden and will never have to visit a DMV/BAR/CHP again, just pay the over priced reg fees;) that is really all CA wants anyway, typical money grab.

(a) Upon registration with the Department of Motor Vehicles, a passenger vehicle or pickup truck that is a specially constructed vehicle, as defined in Section 580 of the Vehicle Code, shall be inspected by stations authorized to perform referee functions. This inspection shall be for the purposes of determining the engine model-year used in the vehicle or the vehicle model-year, and the emission control system application.
