View Full Version : Rough Alignement Upper Control Arms w/ PS

Hello All,

I just finished setting my upper control arms lengths to get in the ballpark for power steering goals (7-8 degrees positive caster, 0.5-0.75 degrees negative camber, 3/32" total toe in). I used measurements that Jeff Kleiner recommended in another post - 7.75" rear-arm length and 9" front-arm length from respective center of clevis bolt to center of balljoint grease fitting. If this is correct, the good news is that I don't believe I will need to shorten the rear arm adjusting sleeve as there is still a decent amount of adjustment that can be done. What I am a little concerned about is the amount of thread showing on the front arms. By rough measurement, I probably have 3/4" of thread in each end of the sleeve. Is this Ok, or should I look to get 5" sleeves for the front? Thanks in advance for the help.

I have a non-power steering rack, but I haven't heard of anyone who needed a longer front sleeve. If anything, the rear sleeve needs to be trimmed but the front sleeve from my readings is usually just fine from the kit.

Thanks, that was my assumption too, but I did find some older threads that mentioned needing 5" sleeves. I have 3/4" of thread showing between the jam nut and end of arm, which is less than the 1" max stated in the FFR manual.

Longer front sleeves generally only come into play with the earlier black & silver zero degree ball joint plate upper arms when they are top mounted with donor spindles. See what you end up with once you get a final alignment.
