Just had my first go cart drive yesterday!!!! What a stressful and incredibly fulfilling ride. All went well except my e-steer was not working and had to muscle the manual steer. Will be looking at that today. Trying to plan ahead - I figure I am 1-2 months out from paint. I am in the greater Tacoma WA area, does anyone have recommendations on bodywork / painters? I really don't want to go to Cali where a lot of people go. Cheers!

Congratulations on your go kart ride!

Subscribed, although paint is more than a year away for me. Curious what options might be out there.

I'm planning on trailering mine to Yuba City, CA. Possibly Temecula, CA. I won't be ready until late 2023 but wanted to see how far out they're booking new jobs. Also wanted to get an idea on what the pricing is at this point. Worth the drive to me to have someone as experienced as Ken Pike or Jeff Miller take care of my paint and fitment. If Indiana wasn't such a long haul I'd have given more consideration to having Jeff Kleiner take care of it as well. 36 hour drive just outta the question. I'll be interested to hear who you go with and what your experience was.

I think it would be worth the drive to Yuba City or have it shipped down like some guys have. Word on the street that Jeff Miller is getting out of the business. I took mine down to Jeff he did a awesome job and even let me store my trailer for two months on his property while he was painting mine. I shopped around up here for prices and they where way more then what Jeff charged me. Mark I see a rode trip down to Cali in your future or we can paint it in your garage. LOL :)

I'd really rather not make the drive but options up here are limited. I know a lot of hot rodders around this area who use a guy near Belfair where I work and will get in touch with him next week. I have a felling he only does metal.

I just live down the street in Bothell. Building an MK4 right now. Any pictures of your paintwork? Great to know there is someone more local.

Very glad to hear you (Jeff) are not getting out of the business. Your reputation is unmatched and I have two buds up here ( any MANY more on the forum) who made the trip and swear buy you. Peterdk1 - thanks for the heads up on Chuck Hyatt - will definitely contact him. I would love to see some picks of your ride!

That is a great looking paint job! Would love to pick your brain about your experience with getting it painted sometime.

Did you do the body alignment and fitment or did the painter? Do you know how how many of these has done?

What about going North to Canada to have it done? Pretty great savings on the dollar exchange rate. I had mine done on Vancouver Island by a custom shop, but there may be some in the greater Vancouver area that you could try.

Super cool to read that someone is building a MK4 in Bothell! I just moved here a few years ago and am thinking about taking the plunge on ordering a kit.

How is it going so far?

I have tracked down 3 speed shops in the PDX area, pretty high end stuff and I chatted with a couple painters. They seemed pretty good, but would need to see my car before giving a good estimate. 1 of the guys has done some old cobra's, not sure what kit but he said those kits had to have the body glassed to the frame. I have plenty of time to figure it out, hoping to do most of the fit up myself before turning it over to the painter.

Car is mostly functional and I am working getting it registered. Where in Bothell are you?
