View Full Version : Removing rear spinners
After a couple seasons of not removing the rear FF5 spinners, I can’t seem to be able to remove them. I have removed the Allen key retainer, however every time I try to hit the spinner with a rubber mallet, the thread adapter or hub just spins with it. Tried tightening, loosing it, back and forth but it seems the spinner and hub don’t want to separate. The fronts came off with ease. Any suggestions?

worst case scenario is to drill/tap a hole through the center threaded adapter to have something to hold on to while spinning the spinner

How about drilling two holes that the tool to loosen grinder discs with will fit in? Never tried it myself, just a suggestion for a possible fix.

Have you tried apply some heat to the spinner and or some penetrating oil in the set screw holes and behind the knock off.

I used oil filter pliers with a pad of firm rubber duct taped to the jaws. I was able to grab the threaded adapter enough to be able break grip of the spinner.

Just a reminder, some of these I believe have a left hand thread.

Once you do get the spinners off, a small application of spinner eaze works great to keep them from seizing up again.

If installed correctly, you should be loosening by turning the spinners towards the front of the car, regardless of the side you’re on. Just remember “tight ***” and you’ll always tighten towards the rear. You might get enough grip with a strap wrench around the center hub if there’s enough room to grip
Thanks all. Ended up drilling a small hole enough to get a punch through. That with a bit of oil and finally got it off.

Nice tip. Thanks!
A size 329 silicone o-ring will hold the hub piece and prevent it from spinning on you.

Another trick is to cut a piece of a foam pool noodle that is about the diameter of the hub to a length a bit longer than the length of the rotor to the spinner hub. Stick it into the wheel as you install it and the noodle will compress and will hold the spinner hub in place.
Finally, if you want to go high-end, contact Dave from:

He will make you a set of these at a very fair price:

They slide in after placing the spinner hub in the wheel. The pointed set screws then get tightened until they bite into the wheel. Next, tighten the flat set screws against the spinner hub to hold it firmly in place.
