Deleted my last post as I thought I'd heard one thing, but after replaying the video, wasn't what I thought I'd heard. A Cobra replica, not an FFR, just sold for $120,000 with a real FE 427.

I forwarded the link to this thread to my Porsche Pals and they were all astonished to say the very least.
While they've always been impressed with my car, it is the only Factory-5 they've seen.
I'm hoping that one of them will soon take the plunge to build a roadster.
On a personal note, I still prefer my MK-4 to their super cool cars.

Until you've built and driven a Factory-5, you don't understand the journey and relationship with these cars and the community.

Thanks To Dave Smith, His Team, Plus Our Entire Factory-5 Family For Propelling Our Hobby To New Heights!

I think one has to put these prices in the context of for a "charitable cause", or am I wrong? Otherwise the prices I see are just crazy money and do not represent what you would get when selling your car.

How about a MK-2 selling for $73,500.00 on Bring-A-Trailer?

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1965-factory-five-racing-cobra-roadster-2/

The link below are all Factory Fives that sold on that website in recent days:

The Mecum Group is a far better and larger platform than B.A.T. and the charity thing helped too don't you think?

A MK4 was my first build, now working on a full 1970 Mach 1 restomod. I have to agree that everything in our hobby has gone through the roof. First Gen Mustang coupes going for $40K is crazy. Bring a trailer is great for the seller as there are far too many buyer with excess money bidding. $73K for a MK2 is crazy money IMO. Just a few years ago that car would have sold for half that, maybe. I admit I have not looked at the specs on the car, but even if built with all new parts and a great engine some 10 or more years ago, way too much. If these are the kind of prices that are going to become the norm, when I finish my new shop I will buy a partially complete kit at a discount and build a car for resale.

Time to call my insurance agent and adjust coverage.

Yes, it was at SEMA on display. I suspect final price was heavily influenced by the charity angle.

Time to call my insurance agent and adjust coverage.

My insurance company requires me to get an appraisal from a qualified appraiser to support my "Agreed Value" policy. It's worth getting one done for your specific car to be sure you have appropriate coverage.

It's about time these cars come into real world pricing. They have been lounging around in the 40k and less area for too long. They are worth 60-80k plus. If you put a Superformance or Back draft side by side with an well done FFR car there isn't that much difference to justify the price variation.

And with a professional level build, there are some things to justify the FFR car being worth more. The frame design alone is a big one.

Even though I don't ever plan to sell my car (never say never), I do plan to take very detailed pictures so if I ever have to sell it, I can show the next buyer the quality of work.

A detailed build thread can help there as well. I have a photo album with about 200 pictures of my car at all stages of the build that I also take to car shows for folks to flip through.

I have a few build threads saved that I've read a few times. Yours is one of them :). thank you for documenting it so well.
