Just throwing this out there as info. or a warning to just be aware. This weekend we removed the intake manifold to fix a leak at the front "China Wall". To get the manifold off we needed to remove the distributer. The engine was built by BluePrint Engines and this is one of their distributors. I was not able to find any brand name on the distributor nor any branding info on their website but given the price I am inclined to believe that these are knock off distributors. Please correct me if I am wrong.

We have contacted BluePrint Engines for other concerns in the past and they have always been responsive. I am not bashing BluePrint. I just want to point out that when you think the deal is cheaper than you expected there are reasons.

The photos below are of the distributor we removed. I was checking the proper gear measurement and when I gently pulled on the gear to check endplay it just came off. The gear was never pinned. I don't even know how this would get by any semblance of quality control. We decided to replace the distributor with an MSD Pro Billet model. I then checked both Ford specs. and MSD specs. for proper gear placement on the shaft and the unbranded distributor was well out of spec.
Be aware of any part you purchase or install not purchased from a reputable company. Unbranded basically means unsupported and no warranty.

What did blueprint say?

That looks like a Pro Comp, or whatever brand they copied, distributor I had for awhile. The gear is not supposed to be pinned. It has a machined surface on the bottom of the gear that rides on a thrust surface on the block. If you look down the distributor hole past the cam gear you will see a thrust bearing surface with oil channels cut in it. I believe the thought behind the design is to remove pressure on the distributor bearings and make gear changes easier.
I ran it for 6 years with no problems. The gear and the cam showed no wear when I replaced it with a Holley Hyperspark as part of my Sniper upgrade. There is a little wear showing on your gear but, it looks centred on the teeth as far as I can tell.
That's the good news.
Now the bad. THEY ARE DIRT CHEAP made in China products. I paid a whopping $54 US for mine on EBay. They either work good or not at all from the reports I have heard.
Hopefully what Blueprint is installing is the original product and not the ProComp knockoff.

Norm

PS Found yours, or one that looks strikingly similar on EBay. The manufacturers name is now OEG but, they are still $54.

Was the engine already out of warranty? I ask only because if I had a leak at the intake manifold, I would call Blueprint first before disassembling for fear of breaking the warranty. It doesn’t change the fact that that is a cheap knock off distributor, but like James, I’m curious to know what Blueprint said.

Well.....the motors certainly aren't cheap when you buy them!
