Hello! I'm considering getting a roadster (either Mk4 or 289) as a project with my son (20YO).
I'm having a hard time discerning the difference between Mk4 and 289 models, and why the 289 is so much more expensive.

Both cars share the same chassis, so it's more of a re-body scenario.

MK4 has more curves, wider fender flairs, different gas cap location, slightly different nose opening.
IMO the 289 is a gentleman's car, a street cruiser. looks great with under car exhaust and no roll bars
the MK4 is a track tearing, fire breathing, loud, smelly, obnoxious beast.

Others can explain the historical and appearance difference between the two. As for the cost -- sure you're comparing them the same way? The Mk4 is available in either a base kit or a complete kit, currently listed at $20,990. The 289 is only available as a complete kit, currently listed at $21,990. Don't know specifically why the 289 is $1K more. I suspect the content is slightly different plus it's relatively low volume. But not a huge difference.

Both Cars Are 100% Beautiful So You Can't Make A Bad Choice!
.The good thing is that you can't go wrong since they share the same chassis.
