On my MK 4 got the windshield sitting nice, but there is a gap between the post and the mounting point where it bolts on. Should I put in a washer or not ? Other side is fine and there is plenty of room in the slots, thanks

I presume you have centered the windshield on the body already, so the gap can't be decreased at all?
If so, you better add enough washers to fill the gap! You do not want to put any stress on either of the posts, or expect a broken glass in the offing.

I agree with AC Bill -- don't stress the uprights. If there is a gap between the upright and the mounting point on the chassis, shim it with one or more cut washers. One thing I've found is that standard cut washers vary considerably in thickness, so you might find one or a combination that fits perfectly. Assuming you're in "pre-build" and will be removing the windshield again for paint, make sure to save that washer set to re-use during final assembly.

Shim it or break it.

I had to add 1/4 inch bar stock to space out both sides.

It is strange how different they all are. Mine was spot on, absolutely perfect. I couldn't believe it.

You may also want to check the angle of the support arms, the bend in them I believe should be around 9 degrees. Im willing to bet that angle is off more often then the mounts on the frame are. Mine were around 11 which actually caused the arms to pinch the frame and create a gap at the lower edge of windshield frame.

Thanks guys I did have to add a 5mm shim, and the pax side lower hole was really close to the edge, but came out fine. Now onto the doors

We both must have got lucky. Mine seemed to fit fairly well.
