View Full Version : Tilton Master Cylinders

Can't find an answer here in the forum but I have the Tilton Hydraulic Fluid Reservoir with the front/rear brakes and clutch.

The Tilton has a 3/8ths hose nipple at the bottom of the cylinder, the Wilwood master cylinders are 1/4.

For those of you that have ran the Tilton setup what did you use?

One additional question, I want to mount them on the firewall, any recommendations/lessons learned?

Thanks,
Capt. B

Capt. B,
I've run the Tilton 3-chamber reservoir, sorry, it's not a master cylinder, on the firewall of a previous car (SPF). I've also modified the output fittings to AN-6 by drilling out the bottom holes. I intend to do the same on the FFR in process. BUT...
I will probably build new caps into the Wilwood master cylinders that will accept AN-6.
I'm working on a "Z" bracket that will pull away from the firewall and will allow mounting as high as possible. The reservoir caps will be about 1/4" below the hood opening lip. Don't have the design completed but all indications are that it will work. I am fairly certain that the aircleaner will need to be removed to access the reservoir.
Also, I've moved the firewall forward 3" which will help with the location and reduces required forward movement.
This is quite a departure from whatever normal is.
PM for more, happy to talk.
Jim

Captain B,

I've got 3/8" banjo hose fittings on my MC's, not caps.
You can see them in this video walk-around done during my build.
These items came with my kit so I don't know if they can be easily found.
They made an easy task of plumbing to the reservoir to the MC's.

Got it figured out, there's a Wilwood part that screws into the FFR supplied master cylinders with an AN3 fitting. The Tilton had regular hose fittings so I sent it back to Summit and ordered the AN-4 fitted reseviour. I then got 18 inch brake hoses with AN-4 and then got an adapter for AN-3 to AN-4 and problem solved.

If anyone needs some additional info for this reach out to me and I can walk you through it.

Cheers,
Capt. B

I Bet The Solution Will Look Great!
Even though nobody will see the solution, you'll know it is there!

Gravity feed brake fluid at atmospheric pressure and aircraft fittings?
Form follows function. It's only money.

I used the tilton hose to fit the barbs and well tightened clamps on the wilwood MCs

The Tilton rig did not come with hoses.

Yeah, but they sell hoses for it. I went with the tilton hoses just so I would be sure the hoses were good quality and brake fluid compatible
