View Full Version : Roadster Locking Gas cap?

When I built my Mk IV roadster (S/N 9749) I studied EdwardB's build threads closely. I eventually got to the part where he stated that indoor car shows require a locking gas cap for a car to be on display. I just skipped over that modification for my build because I thought there was no way anyone would ever want to have my car on display indoors. Well, guess what? I just got invited to display my car at the Maryland Auto show at the end of this month. It's not a judged contest, just a display of custom cars that my body shop was worked on. Is there an easy way to comply with the locking gas cap requirement without removing the cap/filler and modifying it? Can I just use a zip tie on the flip open filler lid as a temporary lock? Is there a locking gas cap I can just easily swap out?
Thoughts?
Thanks!

Where and when is that show? and yes I have see locking gas caps on our cars. I know that cap is nothing special but don't know a make and model it is from. If you take your cap to advanced, napa or autozone I'm pretty sure they could match th tangs and diameter to something that would work.
You want a "Push & Lock" style Ford cap. This may do the trick: https://www.amazon.com/Motorcraft-FC1004-Locking-Fuel-Cap/dp/B000QV0FIA/ref=sr_1_14?crid=1B8QDKUDMVQQP&keywords=ford+push+lock+gas+cap&qid=1641307643&sprefix=ford+push+lock+gas%2Caps%2C109&sr=8-14

This!

I just got one last month and it's a little pricey, but should be perfect in form and function.
I hope your car becomes the "Best in Show" with the most cam pics! :)

That cap will not work with the newer MK4 filler, unfortunately.
Edit: Sorry -- different cap than the fill through that I was thinking of.

DJ,
If you are planning to use the Breeze Aero cap, have you considered reworking the body at all?

I've put the Breeze Aero Cap inside the LeMans cap on each of my Roadster builds and also my Coupe build. Little bit of modification to the LeMans cap and it drops right in. Not for everyone and not cheap. But it works very well.

Yeah Dave, it's in my plan. I've worn my "Make it fit hat" and have had to use it already on other parts of my build. I keep it hanging near the body, along with the dremel, persuasion bar and hammer too. ;)
No really, I believe it fits and if not, I will make necessary mods to make it work it in that part of the build.

Thanks Paul! I thought it was your build that I had seen this referenced on. I have locking gas caps on all my vehicles! Sugar and/or other foreign substances in the gas is never a good thing! Simple protection to avoid a devestating circumstance.
