Assuming you registering as a custom assembled vehicle.

Thanks in advance

Do you pay tax on a new car when you buy it? This is no different.

Actually, It is different in Texas.

Consistent with his link to the Comptroller site and my experience registering in 2017, there is (from the State website) "No motor vehicle tax is due upon the initial titling or registration of a homemade or shop-made motor vehicle by the manufacturer or individual who actually built the vehicle, as no sale of a motor vehicle has occurred."

Yeah, nothing to pay in TX for our FFR cars (at least the roadster+hotrod replicas, the only thing I have knowledge of).

BUT, I did have to pay for a bond, because I was using a crate motor that has no serial number.. caused me to go the "bonded title" route. So here's another reminder for folks to make sure they have a documented motor, with manufacturer bill-of-sale..

That's why I asked, every state is different. In MO everything with a title has a sales tax.

That must be something new. I paid sales tax in 2017 on a registration as a custom vehicle.

I believe you have to pay taxes unless you can show proof you already paid taxes to FF, for engine etc. Good link to lots of info and experiences here:

I bet it varies by the person you deal with - not a good answer but I witnessed many different "final" answers that changed during the process. I was totally upfront and gave them all paperwork and they decided no sales tax needed ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I don't know what happened to my post...
Let's try that again.
When I registered mine back in 2018, the lady made me pay taxes on the used sale price for my motor transmission and then taxes on the price of the ffr kit. I argued with her quite a bit about how I wasn't buying a vehicle but assembled parts to build my own vehicle... I was quite sure I wasn't supposed to pay tax on any of it. All my words fell on deaf ears.
