Phil and I got the new T5 installed in his Mk2 without removing the engine.

We made a video showing the process:

Enjoy!!

Nice video, just realized my MK2 does not have the driveshaft safety loop. Was that standard issue or something added by Phil?

It was not supplied with the kit. I purchased the drive shaft loop from Mike Forte.

Watched the video and learned something. I have removed my T5 a couple of times from my Mk1. I always slid the T5 onto the bellhousing while rotated. I had to align the bellhousing , T5 and clutch fork all at the same time. This approach rotates the T5 back to vertical and uses the temporary alignment pins which takes out one piece of the balancing act. I'll remember that for next time. Thank you!

20 years on the road. How do you keep it looking like new underneath?

No kidding - sooo clean! I installed my G-Force T-5 in my MK4 with the motor in this same way.

With 30k miles and 20 years it’s no garage queen, but I do avoid driving in the rain. I clean underside every year. A couple things on the video to note. The shifter was removed and reinstalled after the transmission was bolted to the bell housing. We left the rear mount of until after the shifter was reinstalled to allow room to bolt in. We also used the jack under the pan to move up and down to adjust the angle. The location dowels are a really good trick.

also look into metco for safety loop.
they have one listed for FFR MK3 and 4. not sure if you'll need to modify to fit an MK2
