Hello all,
I plan to retire in the spring of 2022. I've been considering a convertible sports car for my wife and I and somehow find myself intrigued with the idea of the factory five roadster. My wife asked what spurred this on because I never mentioned building a car before. I was a little confused myself because I've never really considered it. I never think of myself as a mechanic but I've always been a big DIY'er. Kitchens, bathrooms, boats, of course, some partial engine rebuilds and my career has been on the construction side of the electrical industry. I've never been shy around tools. I don't think I would have allowed my self to consider something like this because the "TIME" just wasn't in the cards.
Now I'll have "Real Time'.
So during my searches of a car I think would be fun, I ended up here!
I've been lurking through these forums and see some great work. A big part of my decision (should I move forward) of a factory five Mk4 is the support I see on this forum. If I never build a car. I've already gotten a great deal of pleasure going through some of these build threads.
As of this afternoon I'm signed up for the February 18 roadster build class. I'm looking forward to it.

Yep, this is the best place to be - bar none this is the best group of enthusiasts you'll find. Super helpful.
Welcome and good luck!
Thought of any specs yet?

I had next to zero automotive experience before I started but was a self taught DIY guy. This forum and the other has all the information and knowledge you’ll need to assemble a car and catch the dumb mistakes you’ll undoubtedly make. It’s been a wonderful pastime and a nice conversational piece.

Welcome George, There is nothing like building your car then driving it. The other thing great about this forum is you can meet up with other forum member in your local area for guidance, ideas and cruses.
I can tell you how many new friends I made just because of the cars and forum.

Welcome George!
CH, you are so right. I’ve met some great people off of the forum and at build school, who I meet up, text and email with.
My kit completion date is in April. Even before getting my kit, the forum members have been a huge help with my questions and helping me develop my build plan.

Welcome to the forum!
I highly recommend building one. We just registered our build last week and I can't wait to actually drive it.
This has been one of the most enjoyable things I have done and I can't recommend it enough.
From what you said you have done in the past, you have more than enough experience to build one of these cars!

Hey James,
lots of contemplating going on.
Engine?....I have a Dodge Magnum RT. I'm sure that same 360 horses would be incredible in a car like this. Maybe an engine will fall in my lap and that will be it...lol
Car will be used primarily for cruising. I'd like the idea of a couple of runs at an autocross but probably wouldn't be a regular thing.
So this leads me to brakes.
Brakes? I'm having issues with my feet so I don't want to have to press to hard. Power? or upgrade to Willwoods, Still not sure what would be best for me.
The IRS sounds cool, not sure if it's worth the fund$ for my use.
I like the clean lines of NO rollbars, NO hood scpoop, and REAR exhaust.
I haven't seen a great deal on rear exhaust on the forums but doesn't look easy.
No matter what direction- these cars look kool!!

Thanks Hineas,
Loved your build thread, So great that you could make that long trip to do this with your brother.
If I ever got to that point I hope my Regi process could be half as smooth as yours!
