What are folks using to clearcoat there aluminum with such as the IRS Knuckles. I know Edwardb used something but post did not identify it unless I missed something... which is always possible since I am getting old?

Thanks

My usual go-to is Dupli-Color DE1636-6 PK Clear Engine Enamel with Ceramic - 12 oz. Aerosol. Carried in most local parts stores. Sprays out nicely, flashes quickly, and with overnight dry ready for assembly. I've used it on diffs, knuckles, transmissions, oil pans, etc. Holds up surprisingly well and easy to keep clean. I'm sure there are other options. Maybe some better ones. But this one is relatively inexpensive, easy to find, and works well. Pretty sure I mentioned it specifically in one of more build threads. But can understand not easy to find. Somebody got pretty wordy with those things...

For actual clear coat, I use Eastwood's rattle can automotive two-part clear. It holds up very well and doesn't tend to yellow. https://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-s-2k-aerospraytm-high-gloss-matte-clear.html

For most bare metal (alum, brass, steel,...) I use Shark Hide. Wipe it on with a diaper or microfiber it it dries almost instantly. Lasts for years.

Hey Naz,

What's your experience been as far as using Sharkhide on aluminum engine components (heads, manifolds, water pump)?

Never used it on heads or manifolds, but it works on polished aluminum water pumps and polished brass coolant system fittings. I've use Shark Hide on an assortment of different metals and would think it would work great on heads and manifolds for keeping them oxide free. But it's not going to have a high luster on castings, so don't expect them to look shiny like the polished parts do.

I have been using KBS Direct to metal clear coat on aluminum and magnesium with mixed results. Most parts have been OK but I did my C4 Corvette third member after bead blast. The support spar is OK but the Dana 44 gear housing has what looks like spotty white oxidation under the clear. It is tough like POR undercoat, and it bonds the cover to the can like POR.
