It's just not right without the sound of a big V8, but I'll have to admit I'm intrigued.

I'm with you on this one. I'll gladly take that new Electric F-150 or Toyota pickup announced recently, but for fun...I'll stick with side pipes.

I am out any electric powered muscle car. Side pipes are just good for the soul.

I saw this car last month at Hillbank. Doug showed it to myself and John Tongish. Not my cup of tea but impressive, nonetheless!

I love it! I have often dreamed of taking an electric Cobra to the race track.

Cool car... my daily driver is an electric car, but for weekend/fun I want my nasty V8.

There was another electric Cobra post a few months ago and they put speakers and a big sub in it to blast the sound out. LOL.

One can not fault the forward thinking. “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.”
Well here insanity may be expecting the same results.
In a business sense this is an effort to expand the market and anticipate the future.

I also sit in a BMW forum quite a bit and the Electric Vehicle (EV) vs. Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) debate is raging in multiple threads. It's almost like a war of religion! Personally, I love the technology and engineering that this demonstrates, but want my senses to be stimulated by more than acceleration at this point. Ask me again in a decade or two when ICE cars are banned and you can no longer purchase fossil fuels. I'll want one of these or find myself living out Rush's Red Barchetta by sneaking out in my gas-powered mechanical machine.

Red Barchetta Lyrics:

My uncle has a country place
No one knows about
He says it used to be a farm
Before the "Motor Law"
And on Sundays I elude the eyes
And hop the turbine freight
To far outside the wire
Where my white-haired uncle waits
Jump to the ground
As the turbo slows to cross the borderline
Run like the wind
As excitement shivers up and down my spine
Down in his barn
My uncle preserved for me an old machine
For 50 odd years
To keep it as new has been his dearest dream
I strip away the old debris
That hides a shining car
A brilliant red Barchetta
From a better vanished time
We fire up the willing engine
Responding with a roar
Tires spitting gravel
I commit my weekly crime
Wind in my hair
Shifting and drifting
Mechanical music
Adrenaline surge
Well-weathered leather
Hot metal and oil
The scented country air
Sunlight on chrome
The blur of the landscape
Every nerve aware
Suddenly ahead of me
Across the mountainside
A gleaming alloy air car
Shoots towards me, two lanes wide
I spin around with shrieking tires
To run the deadly race
Go screaming through the valley
As another joins the chase
Drive like the wind
Straining the limits of machine and man
Laughing out loud with fear and hope
I've got a desperate plan
At the one-lane bridge
I leave the giants stranded at the riverside
Race back to the farm
To dream with my uncle at the fireside

RUSH is my favorite band of all time. And this song is one of their Best products. I once had to memorize a poem in High School and convinced the teacher that this song was true poetry. Got an "A", of course. LOL.

Rush! Love em. I once found myself in a local bar in Erlangen Germany and non other then Neil Peart and Geddy Lee walked in. I had also come from their concert that night in Nurenburg. At the time I lived in Erlangen. I went up to them and offered to buy them their biers and asked what they liked. Spent many hours with them into the early dawn (around 4am.), chatting, told jokes, played a few rounds of pool. A couple months later I was back home in Colorado and a friend of mine asked if I'd like to go see Rush at Red Rocks. I said yes of course and we went very early to get up front as Red Rocks was open seating at the time (1980s). After the opening song Geddy recognized me and invited my friends and I backstage. Afterward, we all went out for beers. Great guys! Fantastic music. I'm lucky to have twice hung out with them and had a beer.

If these guys finally bring this to market, it looks like it would be a pretty easy swap into many muscle cars. I'm personally digging the thought of dropping one of these into a '48 Ford truck.

That’s interesting, Dave. I don’t know Rush songs, so I didn’t know they did a song about a Ferrari. Interesting because this brings it full circle, as AC reportedly designed the Ace after the Ferrari 166s Barchetta.

An awesome story. Can’t help but also think of this song with the news of no new emission vehicles in Canada by 2035

It's amazing how many people have been telling me about this electric Cobra.

I think it's just stupid and there are some things you don't change, for example, you don't remove Cindy Crawford's mole, you don't put ice in beer, and you don't add extra garlic to your grandmother's tomato gravy recipe.

To me, this car is like watching an action movie with the sound off and the subtitles on.

All that blabber said, someone will want them, and every one they make will sell.

P.S. - It's a WILD exaggeration to say that it's getting harder and harder to own a supercar in California and therefore, this car is necessary. But then again this is Superformance we are talking about, the ones that sell "real" Shelby Cobras ;)

I saw that car at SEMA . Very nice, but not my cup of tea. There was also a company there that was showing an electric carbon fiber bodied cobra that they piped in sound of a lumpy V8 sound at idle to make you think it had a real motor- kinda hooky but what can I say. I took a video of it,Ill see if I can find it and post later.

While the make of the care is never mentioned in the song, it’s quite possible that the “red barchetta” in the song is a Ferrari. One of the earliest Ferraris to have the “barchetta” name was the Ferrari 166. The Ferrari 166 was the inspiration for car designer/builder John Tojeiro when he designed the Tojeiro-Bristol Special in 1953. In 1953, AC purchased John Tojeiro’s design. After tweaking the body design a little to avoid legal issues with Ferrari, AC came out with the AC Ace. As we know, the AC Ace was the car that Carrol Shelby used as the basis for his venture with AC, the AC Shelby Cobra. So...barchetta ==> Cobra!

"Red Barchetta" has long been one of my favorite Rush songs (from my favorite of their albums!). It's cool to know that many other cobra owners love this song too!

As an official geezer, am kind of a form follows function type. Heck, even second guessing my coyote decision. I miss the wonderful sounds of an "over-cammed" and "over-carbed" V-8 of any flavor. Just wish they wouldn't put a e-motor in a 65 work of art.

I agree, but modern stereos, touch screens and any manner of new fangled gadgets are being installed on the dashes of many a roadster these days too. If nothing ever changed we wouldn't have the pleasure of being called old geezers.

If memory serves, I think I remember seeing that FFR also trademarked the name “F9E”…. I’m thinking that “E” will be for an electric version…?
