I like the authentic look of my forward angle shifter, but it’s not the best shifting setup. I’m more used to short throw performance shifters. Has anyone changed to a mid mount short throw shifter? Is there enough room or is it too far forward? Thanks!

I went with a midshift from MGW and love it. Actually cut the shifter stem from 7 to 3.5 inches. Now, it's really a short throw.

Is there a different base available that has a different fulcrum more appropriate for your stick length?

A friend built an adapter plate for me back in '05. I'm planning the same install in the current build. No apparent issues with the installation.
I built the shifter arm. It's about 6" long from the fulcrum ball. Shifting is very abrupt at the stops but fast.

Plenty of room in front of the shifter, in fact I added a center console and it clears easily when shifting to 1st or 3rd gear, plenty of clearance. I ordered mine from Mike Forte, he converted to mid-shift and I bought a 6" tall shifter arm from Mike also...not on his webpage, call him.

The Coyote sits a few inches further forward than a SBF. Mid shifter still works but it will put you close to the dash. I used a short lever that angles back a bit. Love it.

I have the Pro -5.0 mid shift on my TKO600. In my case (and others that I know of) I had interference with the cross member on the frame. I used a Hurst 5387201 shifter. I like the length and throw, but if I'm not careful, I'll slam my knuckles into the dash on 3rd and 5th. Some folks cut the cross member; at least one I know of re-welded it; I cut the cross member and fabricated a backup piece to keep the frame out of the way.
