I know it's off topic and doesn't affect anyone here, but wanted to shout that I'm super proud of my son Ryan. He graduates college this month and has already landed a Systems Engineer job at Lockheed Martin in Fort Worth TX.

He was at my side when we built our MK4 and I'm sure that contributed to his skills a little and hopefully its going to pay off for him.

Sad that he's moving to TX ( i lived in Houston 25+ years ago ) but very happy that he's on his way in life.

mark.

Doesn't matter if it's off topic, It's a monumental accomplishment to raise a child to adulthood. You should be absolutely proud as a parent to have made this happen. Especially in todays world with all the distractions to throw a young person off track. I am amazed I made it to 21 with all the dumb **** I did as a young person. So many of my childhood friends are dead. Be proud dad, you did a great job. I'm happy for you and good luck to your boy.

Congratulations! And even more impressive that he did it through COVID. An engineering degree is hard enough in good times!
Building the MK4 together definitely taught him a lot of life long skills probably more than you will know. How lucky for you both to share that.

Seeing your kids graduate college is one of those moments as a parent that you'll always cherish. Lockheed Martin is a great company to work for! I worked for many of the big defense contractors throughout my career, and work for Lockheed Martin now as a senior manager in the Space line of business. One of the best things about Lockheed Martin is that you can move within the company to pretty much any location that needs to fill a position, so if he ever wants to relocate down the road, the options are plentiful.

Just wanted to add my, good for you both!
Ggunter summed up my thoughts pretty accurately.
As parents, all we want is for our kids to be happy and do better than we did.
My son is 26, has his masters and is in his 4th year teaching social studies and coaching the schools various teams. He’s engaged to a beautiful girl from Cali and is doing way better than I was at his age. This is how it’s supposed to be.
Great job on you, all those in your life that played a role in his life, and of course to Ryan. Be proud! You done good!

Engineer here. Engineering is a vigorous course of study and requires a wild amount of dedication. It's also almost always impossible to cheat on engineering exams. This is why every engineer I've ever met is a good citizen and a fine, hard-working person.

Joke: What do engineers use for birth control? Their personality!!! :p

OMG I almost died laughing. My son is in his last year for Chemical Engineering. You did your job to get them through it and teaching them to deal with people as most engineer are introverts.
Nice job raising/teaching yours!!

(it's only 99.9 effective...) :D

Another Engineering joke, which I am sure Mark's son has heard at school:

A Chemical Engineering student is working as a bartender. Two guys walk in and one says, "I'll just have some H20." The other says, "I'll have some H2O too."

The second guy dies.

My daughter attended Colorado School of Mines, which is world renowned for its engineering programs, and she is now a Civil Engineer (PE). When we toured the campus before she enrolled, the student ambassador that led our group was a young lady in her senior year. When my daughter asked what the ratio of male to female students was, she said it was about three to one. Then she looked at my daughter and said, "Your odds are really good, but the goods are really odd."
