View Full Version : Easy winter project, change out the shocks - not….

A quick backstory. Kit is a 2004 MKII, finished in 2010. So doing the usual winter checks I noticed the front shocks (original Pro Shocks) had been rubbing between the spring inner ID and the shock body. I find out this was not unusual back in the day. Ok, decide to treat the roadster to a new set of shocks all around but what to install? Then during research I discover I should really modify the rear single shear to double shear mounting for the lower shock mounts. So anyone know where to buy the double shear brackets and have a recommendation for a set of shocks that will drop in on my MKII set up?
A couple of photos for reference. Thanks

The front coil-overs mount in double shear. I'm assuming you are referring to the rear even though you didn't provide a picture of the rear. If you have a solid axle rear and a Mustang 8.8 housing, you're going to need traction-loc brackets (that's what F5R calls them). Which you get will depend on whether you have a 3-link or 4 link in the rear. Coil-overs are F5R specific. You really only have 2 choice any more. Factory Five Racing or Levy Racing.

Thanks Frank, appreciate your reply. I did say rear in the post by the way. I have the Mustang 8.8 four link setup. I will check with Factory Five, cheers.

Front springs should be 500LBs.

This older thread from FFcars.com may help you to see what has been used with the 4 link set up, and a coil-over shocks, using the 3-link axle brackets to enable the lower bolt to be in double shear. Not sure if you can see the picture posted, if your not logged in to that forum?

Thanks for the feedback. Have been talking to Viking and they are very helpful. Probably going to fab a double shear bracket for the new shocks to be safe.

I wouldn't be so quick to trash those shocks. They are a very good shock and rebuildable. Hyperco still makes springs for them.
